Basic treatise: If you buy a publisher's game used then you're not a customer of theirs so they don't really care if the "one time use" code thing pisses you off:

And boy did the responses start coming in:

And now they've started posting some of them (with permission, I'm assuming):

as a non hardcore gamer, any game i don't buy new [i.e., at release], i will buy used if i can find a used copy, because it is cheaper. i don't really give two shits about supporting any developer. if i want to support a developer, then i will buy at release, because i will want to play it at release.
if a used copy is 'crippled' [i.e., ncaa 2011 not having multiplayer], then that makes me think: should i buy it new, so i can play with my friends now? or should i buy used and do i not give a fuck about multiplayer?
nowhere does it cross my mind that they are fucking me, because hey, they made the software and they make the rules. yes, multiplayer has been free in the past. guess what? free ride is over. oh well. so now i can save $5 by buying used but pay $10 more to get multiplayer, or i can just buy new.
it's not that big of a deal. you either buy new or you buy used to save money, and the designers/developers/whatever will make things cost money for the used gamers.
