Basic treatise: If you buy a publisher's game used then you're not a customer of theirs so they don't really care if the "one time use" code thing pisses you off:

And boy did the responses start coming in:

People want game developers to lower prices. Well, here's the lower price for a weekend. Buy now. Done. Sure, it's not a $50 game at a $40 price forever, but it is a $50 game at a $15 price this weekend only.
Selling a game for cheap is better than not selling it at all, or even renting it/selling it used. Even if DD could do something akin to a "used" game thing (i.e., essentially surrender your license to a game to get a discount on another game) I think they'd be better off if they just sold it to you permanently for $5. There's a better chance you might play it and maybe you'd buy future games of theirs.
The only time I buy used games is when it's some old game I missed back in the day like Anachronox and short of ridiculous eBay prices it's impossible to get, but if I find a used copy in Half-Price books I'll get it. But if it were on Steam I'd buy it there. Or GOG.
I know a guy who refuses to spend more than $10 on any game. If he can't find it at HPB or used for $10 or less he just doesn't buy it. I think if used games went away he'd get out of gaming - but I don't think the game industry would be any worse off without him.
