You don't think publishers run these numbers extensively? Yes, if they could sell 1500 units at $50 they would be stupid not to. But they wouldn't sell 1500 units at $50, or they would sell it for $50.
Why wouldn't they? Well, I dunno for sure. But it could be tons of reasons. For one, a lower price might make people thing quality is lower. Maybe retailers don't want mixed pricing as it'll confuse customers.
But if you don't think publishers are pricing games to maximize your profit you must think the whole games industry is run by people who have no idea how the market works. Why would they ever do something other then try to maximize their profit?
