If the game retails for $40 and used it's $20 but the multiplayer code is $10 then you come out ahead. If it's $20 then you don't. If the game retails for $60 and it's used for $55 but the multiplayer code is $10 then it makes you buy it used.
This is pretty much exactly what the game industry should be doing to combat this.
