Preparing for a long weekend, Shackers? If you need some reading through Memorial Day, we have quite a list:
To continue our Diablo 3 coverage, I posted my review of the game, and Blizzard offers news about hotfixes and a new patch next week.
Under the heading of bad news, 38 Studios has apparently laid off its entire staff and the staff of subsidiary Big Huge Games. The timing is interesting since only hour earlier, co-founder Curt Schilling has tweeted a link to new screens for it MMO Copernicus. As a side note, apparently Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning needed to sell 3 million units to break even.
If you are into trailers, check out the eerie live-action movie of the upcoming Metro: Last Night. The silence near the end is deafening. Also, there is an incredibly funny, tongue-in-cheek trailer for Mad Riders.
Andrew took a look at the court documents in the Activision lawsuit against Infinity Ward's founders. He also reported on the server population numbers for Star Wars: The Old Republic to see how the game was faring.
Finally, be sure to listen to the new Weekend Confirmed for the last gaming from Garnett, Jeff and the rest!
Have a great weekend. Catch you in the forums!

92% of all Android handsets that connected to Google Play in a 14 day period were running a version of Android below 3.0. That means that 92% of Android devices out there do not support full disk encryption and are thus useless for any BYOD model of mobile device management.
Even Trend Micro is getting in on the Android bashing: http://www.trendmicro.com/cloud-content/us/pdfs/business/reports/rpt_enterprise_readiness_consumerization_mobile_platforms.pdf
"Android security and manageability are the lowest in the segment."
There's no enforceable encryption of backups, and no way of knowing about, responding to, and alerting people to security holes in all Android devices. On top of that, you can put two Samsung devices on the table that look identical, except one is a useless brick running 2.2 and other is semi-functional on 4.0.
There are fundamental problems with Android that Google can only fix with time, and they're making no apparent progress. 67 million iPads versus 12 million Android tablets speaks volumes.

Agree or Disagree? Do you know of or have found something else that you think breaks the game?
I think some of the problems with the game are lack of knowledge in the player base. It's been 10 days?
Itemization. If all you are gearing up based on main stat + vitality. That might work early but it won't work late. Sure not all stats add damage for every class but all stats benefit everyone!
1 Str = 1 Armor. Stat runs on a curve with diminished returns
1 Dex = 0-100 0.1% 101-500 0.025% 501-1000 0.02% 1001-8000 0.01% Dodge
1 Int = 0.1 All Resist. This also includes physical resist making it similar to armor. Runs on the same exact curve as Str.
1 Vit = 10 HP

Well, it is almost a year since I started development and I now have a game that I am extremely proud of. Can't wait to see what the Shack thinks of it.
I am incredibly excited to announce that Plague Inc. is now available on the app store! Download it now to experience the latest strategy experience for the iPhone. Can you infect the world?

I'm moving this weekend to a place with no internet, and since I'll be moving again in October I don't think we'll bother getting connected until then.

I sold someone a near pristine copy of Skyrim 360 back in February on the 25th for his grandson's confirmation. He never said when it was but I get a message today (exactly 3 months later) saying he gave it to the kid and game has a crack on it making it unplayable. I did not see any problems when I sold it otherwise I would not have, obviously. Now he wants the money back but won't give me the kids gamertag to see if he has already played it for proof and beat it or just didn't like it.
The guy does have 500+ 100% feedback compared to my 45 but I still asked to see the crack. Three months seems a long time to never even look at an item after getting it. I always put no refunds on my sales with the ebay forms so I want to just tell him to piss off. He won't provide the kids gamertag for proof. Fuck I hate ebay idiots.

After playing the free weekend version for a few hours I can safely say that it's one of the finest multiplayer shooters available today. It's got so much going for it. For one, the game is beautiful looking. Each level is put together with attention to detail like none other--high res textures, atmospheric lighting, rolling terrain, and some beautiful smoke and fog effects. The sound effects are fantastic too--gunfire, ricochets , soldiers screaming, planes roaring in the distance. It's not quite Battlefield 3 quality in technology, but it makes up for it with love from the designers. The whole package just oozes atmosphere.
And the gameplay is no slouch either. I've been sticking strictly to "Action" mode, which seems like the sweet spot in FPS gaming. It makes the game play much more like Day of Defeat than the original ARMA-like simulation. Weapons are still very lethal, but your freedom of movement is essentially unrestricted. The controls are crisp and responsive, the FOV is perfect out of the gate, and there is even a first-person cover system. I'm still getting the hang of that one (extra button to push), but it seems very innovative and unobtrusive.
Also, some of the levels in this game need to be seen to be believed. The Grain Elevator sticks out to me as a very special map. Gone are the days of maps with 2 or 3 carefully designed chokepoints. These things are huge, real-world spaces. Multiple huge buildings (all with fully modeled interiors, doors, and windows) overlooking expansive outdoor spaces. It gives tons of capability for tactically-minded players to sneak around and ambush.
I highly recommend you take a Diablo 3 break and give this a try while it's still on STEAM free weekend. This is a surprisingly slick PC-centric shooter that needs more love!

Minecraft XBLA is getting a small update (1.7.3) for pistons, and then developer 4J is moving into the ambitious Adventure update. It calls this "the most difficult update due to the sheer amount of changes."

My dad's due for an upgrade for his laptop, and because he travels a lot he's looking for a netbook or (preferably) ultrabook that would suit his needs. I've been looking around, but I was hoping you guys could give me more options or recommendations. He'd like:
-Long battery life
-Around 12-13" screen (mobility and weight wise)
-it needs to be 'fast' (hence the Ultrabook). This boils down to, SSD, 4GB RAM (or more) and a good CPU.
He doesn't watch movies/play games, so it doesn't have to be a power-house.
Thanks!

I did this for 2 reasons:
1. I never played it. I just played Diablo 1.
2. My computer (X220) can't play Diablo 3 for shit.
Is there anything I should know? Can I play co-op through the single player? Anyone want to play tonight in like an hour? It's downloading now.
