My kid is currently taking one of his Taekwondo belt tests and there are school age kids sparring with one another kicking each other in the chest while absolutely blistering synth is piped over the PA.

This is some surreal Cobra Kai shit.

trying to resist shouting "FINISH HIM!" each time the instructor calls, "final round!"

It's all fun and games until the revived loved one starts to beg for money from being kept from being deleted or thrown on to a mechanical hard drive.

I think people are taking the wrong thing away from this. If you believe that companies now have very strong pricing power AND can prevent wages from rising then how can you have sustained inflation? Consumers will run out of money/credit. At best you could say this theory could explain a temporary surge in inflation.

But this also ignores what happened in the pandemic… which is that we had a huge reduction in supply of goods and services while at the same time the government and federal reserve were blasting money out. Now the fed has also raised interest rates the fastest in history… and inflation has gone down.

It’s always best to be wary of theories that are too appealing to one’s emotions. Everyone would love to just blame greedy companies. But what we’ve seen seems entirely consistent with classic inflation.

The money has to come from somewhere. Wages have gone up. There are still supply issues (they are getting better, but not back to pre pandemic). Some things like housing are slow to increase supply. The point is not that it is the “fault” of wages or companies. Both are involved in a cycle when it comes to sustained inflation.
