Meet the Shacknews Team

Lola Khan, Shacknews CEO and Chairpet of the Board

Lola Khan, Eternal Chairpet of the Board at Shacknews

Lola was named CEO of Shacknews in the Spring of 2021, leading the company during tumultuous times. She led the development team during the crucial launch of the Shackpets app, the ultimate battle for cuteness.

In October 2022, Lola passed away suddenly at the age of 7. She was the first-ever female dog CEO of a video game news outlet and remains our Eternal Chairpet of the Board having won the E3 2018 election in convincing fashion. We will never forget Lola and her amazing abilities to do it for Shacknews from her first role as VP of Marketing all the way to the top of the C-suite.

Asif Khan, Shacknews Editor-in-Chief

Asif Khan, CEO/EIC/EIEIO

Asif Khan is the majority shareholder of Shacknews. He began his career in video game journalism as a freelancer in 2001 for Tendobox.com. Asif is a CPA and was formerly an investment adviser representative. After much success in his own personal investments, he retired from his day job in financial services and is currently focused on new private investments.

His favorite PC game of all time is Duke Nukem 3D, and he is an unapologetic fan of most things Nintendo. Asif first frequented the Shack when it was sCary's Shugashack to find all things Quake. When he is not immersed in investments or gaming he is a purveyor of fine electronic music. Asif also has an irrational love of Cleveland sports. He can be reached at asif.khan@shacknews.com or on Twitter @technosucks.
Bill Lavoy, Shacknews Managing Editor

Bill Lavoy, Managing Editor

Bill is a guide writer who got his start in the industry by working for Prima Games in 2013, then USgamer in late 2014. He began dabbling in SEO and developing strategies to increase traffic through guide writing. In 2016 he joined Greenlit Content and continued to develop his SEO skills and guide-writing abilities. While he continued to work with Greenlit Content, Bill joined Shacknews in 2017 and began focusing on creating a guides program and improving both the backend and editorial SEO. Bill made the full-time jump to Shacknews in 2019.

Bill almost never misses a Toronto Maple Leafs game, and is a season ticket holder of the London Knights, a local hockey club. If he's not working or watching hockey, however, he's probably playing Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, or The Long Dark.

Bill can be reached via email at bill.lavoy@shacknews.com or via Twitter @RumpoPlays.
Ozzie Mejia, Shacknews Senior Editor

Ozzie Mejia, Senior Editor

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Follow him on Twitter at @Ozz_Mejia for musings and random shenanigans, or contact him via email at ozzie@shacknews.com.
Donovan Erskine, Shacknews News Editor

Donovan Erskine, News Editor

Donovan is a young journalist from Maryland, who likes to game. His oldest gaming memory is playing Pajama Sam on his mom's desktop during weekends. Pokémon Emerald, Halo 2, and the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 were some of the most influential titles in awakening his love for video games. After interning for Shacknews throughout college, Donovan graduated from Bowie State University in 2020 with a major in broadcast journalism and joined the team full-time. He is a huge Star Wars nerd and film fanatic that will talk with you about movies and games all day. You can follow him on Twitter @Donimals_.
Sam Chandler, Shacknews Guides Editor

Sam Chandler, Guides Editor

Sam Chandler is one of the lead Guide Editors for Shacknews, specializing in delivering high-quality and easy-to-digest information for gamers of all creeds. When he’s not tracking down and documenting collectibles, he's crafting in-depth guides for clearing raids or explaining in-game mechanics.

He's also the resident Australian for Shacknews, bringing an intercontinental flair to the editorial. When he's not working, he enjoys reliving his childhood by collecting Nintendo 64 games, diving head-first into the lore of the Souls series, grinding for gear in Destiny 2, or being a Pirate Legend with his partner in Sea of Thieves.

Growing up in Australia meant being disconnected from the rest of the world, but now in this digital age of connectivity, he's been able to meet some truly inspirational people.

You can contact him via email at sam.chandler@shacknews.com or connect with him on Twitter for some friendly banter: @SamuelChandler.

He’s been an avid gamer since his dad showed up with a Sega Genesis on Christmas day. Dennis is a huge fan of fighting games, hosting live tournament events for games like Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 with some fun color commentary. He’s also regularly competing in several tourneys annually for games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter V. As a Chicago native, you can expect him to be slightly depressed about the Bears post-season hopes on a regular basis. He’s also a fan of From Software created Soulsborne games and enjoys doing challenge runs in his spare time. He hopes to complete his first no-hit run of a Dark Souls game by the end of the year. When he’s not gaming, you can find him diving into the discount comics bin or enjoying a horror movie with the lights off.
