tl;dr:
A pretty good series of games gets shelved because of piracy. :[

You said originally that piracy was the responsibility of the developer if they don't create methods to thwart it, and my only point was that what you're doing is basically diverting responsibility from the perpetrator to the victim (because the victim was somehow negligent or left themselves open to be victimized), and that kind of reasoning is obviously flawed at a fundamental level.
"Didn't lock the door to your house and someone entered in and stole your stuff? That's your responsibility. It's not the responsibility of the person who decided to break the law and enter your house without your consent to steal the items, I mean, he just couldn't help himself and shame on you for putting him in that impossible position of temptation." That's basically what you're saying.
The main responsibility for any criminal act should always default on the perpetrator and not the victim, no matter how negligent the victim is. I mean, that's just common fucking sense really. Trying to place the responsibility of piracy on the developers because they didn't go through all the impossible steps to prevent is really just ridiculous, and I'm surprised that you as a developer have decided to obfuscate the discussion and give would-be-pirates a rationale for committing a basely immoral act. Shame on you.
