The only thing that works for me consistently are demos that are representative of the product, and while most are good, there are some that are just don't give you the true gameplay experience that you would get if you bought it and played a bit more of the game. The other problem is most demos don't even get released when the game gets released, so I have to wait for the thing, which with some multiplayer games can be fucking useless. I may like the demo which gets me to buy the game, but playing it online becomes impossible when you can't find anyone to play with unless the game is extremely popular. There are other problems too that can come up, such as performance. I may meet the minimum requirements but that doesn't mean the game will play well.
Again, I'm not saying people should pirate games to see if a game is worth it, but I want a good demo released in a timely manner that isn't misleading if I am to pay 50-60 dollars for a game. Is that too much to ask for?
