Otherwise - many PC owners will pirate games like they're watching a TV show. They'll pirate a game that - given the option of "pay for this, or don't play it" - will pick "don't play it".
Most of the people I know that pirate PC games do it as something to fill in the time with, or something to check out, out of interests sake. And if they like the game, they buy it, and try and get anyone who'll listen to them to buy it.
But here in .au - it's worth noting that a PC game can be up to $110. Considering how short, repetitive, and fast disappearing many games are (just look at QW:ET), a lot of people I know see piracy as a "try before you buy" - because $100 is too much to drop on something that's only 5 - 6 hours of play and has few people playing it online. $100 is 3-4 DVD movies - or a couple of nights on the town.
Price really is a factor in it - I think. And counting people who play the game but didn't pay for it as "customers" is not being particularly honest - as many people who played wouldn't bother because it's not something they were specifically interested in. Much the same as with music and movies. Not all consumers of your product would be customers if given the ultimatum of "pay or don't partake".
