No seriously, my college Jazz Appreciation prof was part of a combo that recorded and was set to tour the world, when one guy went all prima donna and quit and the combo collapsed. He said he wouldn't name names with labels, *cough*COLUMBIARECORDS*cough* but the label then sued the combo for their potentially lost revenue from tour sales and every member of that combo wound up in debt to said label. This particular prof said it took him 4 years to pay it off.
Yes yes, the members all willingly signed the contract, Bean thread blahblahblah, but if the record label's business case is ostensibly to make money by risking their own cash on the production costs of new records in the hopes of a post-release windfall, then I have a certain indignation about a company with enough conceit to sue both its suppliers (musicians) and its customers.
