I’ve seen two movies that I’d previously never seen since we last convened for MOVIE MONDAY.
Tomorrow on the Cigars & Cinema Podcast we’re discussing Out of Sight - https://www.youtube.com/@ogtcigars-oakglentobacconi8932/streams
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Fifth Dimension - I think I wanted to like this movie more than I did, because it does have kind of an earnest energy to it and a quirky premise. However, despite its attempts to make Buckaroo and his entourage seem super-cool and like the ultimate heroes, I never quite bought it. It’s just too thin, and as much as I like Peter Weller, his performance never feels charismatic enough for me to buy what they’re selling. But, the movie does wholeheartedly embrace its nature as a parody and isn’t afraid of being absolutely silly, which provides some amusing ideas and I did chuckle throughout the film. Empty calories, but kinda tasty.
Libeled Lady - This is a screwball comedy from 1936 starring Myrna Loy, William Powell, Spencer Tracy, and Jean Harlow. It’s about a newspaper man whose newspaper prints a libelous story about a wealthy socialite, so they hire a libel expert to try and manufacture a situation with the socialite that will clear the newspaper. 30’s/40’s screwball comedies has to be one of my favorite genres and this one delivers. The dialog is well-written and everything moves along at a brisk pace, and the movie is full of so many double-crosses and changes of fortune that it’ll make your head spin. Good fun.
And, the usual MOVIE MONDAY thing:
1. Name a movie. Any movie. If I've seen it, I'll briefly tell you what I think about it. I'm sure you're dying to know.
2. If you want, we can then dig deeper into our agreement/disagreement about said movie.

What do I do with all of this? I don’t want to throw them away, this was my childhood. Do people buy this? I’d like to maybe sell this but I don’t know.
Life was simpler back then Shacknews. -_-

Well, Walmart executive team is sending me a $500 gift card as compensation. Unfortunately the TV is $2300 now, but I can probably wait for another deal to maximize it. It pays to rail the executive team for customer service if you have an awful experience. (Regular CS couldn't and wouldn't do jack shit since its a 3rd party seller)

The AVR, TV and Ps5 work just fine and it will allow VRR.
The PC will not allow VRR despite showing as GYSNC Compatible in NVIDIA settings, not matter what I do, when going through the AVR.
So, I switched things around.
I ran the PC directly to the TV and of course, GYSNC works just fine and I I get sound from the TV, as I should.
However, when I then try to loop in the AVR using eArc to get sound, I get nothing. There is no AVR option under sound options.
PC-->TV using HDMI 1 on the TV
TV--> AVR using HDMI2 (eArch channel) to the Arc/eArch 8k main channel on the back of the AVR)
No sound/no AVR option.
Tried adding another hdmi cable from tv in HDMI3 to the back of the avr in case it need yet an additional cable but nothing.
It's driving me crazy and I absolutely hate this.
All the cables work fine.
All the HDMI ports that are capable are set to 8k Extended on the AVR.
I've tried reboot just the AVR to reestablish the handshake multiple times.
All firmware is updated.

I've gotten to final boss but dropped a travel pin. I want to first complete all the shrines. At this rate I won't complete before 1 year anniversary but hopefully before the Elden Ring DLC.

According to Dave Lang it is no longer written in Flash https://twitter.com/JosephJBroni/status/1787551911052259545
It was pretty buggy, the framerate was a slideshow during large battles (particularly later in the game), the voice acting was bad, and it had more than a few rough edges...but I had a really great time with it. The realtime-with-pause combat made it pretty easy to play with a controller (although target selection priority sorting felt random) and I loved how the game let you manually save just about whenever you want (with the exception of during combat and a specific dungeon).
Particularly liked the storyline and the ability to choose either a selfish or selfless ending. I'd read that people didn't like grinding in the game, but...like...I never had to grind? The difficulty curve is just about perfect and even though I realized like 20 hours in that I made a serious boo boo with my character builds, the game game gave me enough resources to mitigate my earlier mistakes. Protip: if you level up blunt weapons and backstab, you'll have a much easier time later on.
Glad I played the way I did though, because it's those missteps and mistakes that make RPGs so memorable. For example, I didn't put ANY points into blunt weapons, so when I got to the rock monsters, I was doing zero physical damage and minimal magic damage. I thought I might be screwed, but I took a look through what I had and one of the weapons was a nodachi that had a chance of encasing the enemy in an ice tomb, so even if I wasn't causing damage, they were frozen in place. I combined that with summoning the golem and was able to muscle my way through, one fight at a time. It was pretty ninja.
Super excited to play the sequel, but right now I'm starting up Wild Arms 2, which has been sitting in my backlog for...about 11 years now :(
