Kratos will be more 'relatable' in God of War: Ascension

Kratos will be more 'relatable' in God of War: Ascension

In God of War 3, Kratos climbed upon Titans and fought the gods of Olympus to a bloody end. It's the very definition of epic. But Ascension is a prequel--what is the appeal of playing as a mere mortal? Game director Todd Papy says that Ascension's prequel nature allows the team to create a more "likable" Kratos--someone you could "somewhat relate to."

Papy explains that in the first God of War, "he was still somewhat ruthless, but there was a side to him that you could somewhat relate to. And that was something I wanted to get across." The goal? For him to be less of an "a**hole" like he was in God of War 3.

God of War team has 'pulled back' from violence against women

God of War team has 'pulled back' from violence against women

Viewed on a timeline, the God of War series is basically the story of a man becoming a remorseless murder machine. The stage demonstration at E3 was particularly graphic, showing off Kratos going full Hannibal by ripping out a monster's brains. This was the partial inspiration for some developers reacting to the violence trend at the show this year.

But there are some lines even the furious Spartan won't cross, like hitting a lady.

God of War for Vita was considered by Ready at Dawn, but dropped

As the latest bit of Sony hardware, the PlayStation Vita has already shored up some entries from known franchises like Uncharted. One of Sony's most popular (and angry) characters hasn't been invited to the Vita party, but his name was apparently added onto the guest list for a short while.

God of War 4 spotted on composer's resume

God of War 3 may have ended the "trilogy," but Sony's not to keen on letting one of its most popular franchises rest. God of War 4 has been spotted yet again, this time on a composer's resume. This comes months after a retailer outed the game for release in late 2012. The teaser image above came from the retail leak.

God of War 4 listing appears on retail site

It's been a while since we've heard from Kratos: god of war, body paint enthusiast, and winner of the Angriest Mascot Competition for five years running. He seems due for another appearance, which is why it's utterly unsurprising to see a rumor popping up of a new game in the God of War series. This one comes from a retailer that lists the game for release in September 2012, complete with a spiffy teaser image.

God of War: Origins Collection includes directors documentary

Somehow, the God of War series has managed to maintain its critical acclaim over five games--each with a different director. While David Jaffe remains the most iconic for his work on the original God of War, his four successors have managed to expand the franchise, taking it into new directions.

The upcoming God of War: Origins Collection will include a special video bonus on the Blu-ray. Included on the disc is the "Game Directors Live" documentary, previously included as a pre-order bonus for God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

The God of War: Origins Collection is updating the acclaimed PSP games in HD -- and this time, that includes the pre-rendered cutscenes.
