Same as Mortal Kombat's violence has grown steadily in the past years, so has its roster of available fighters. Mortal Kombat 11 is no exception, and from what we've seen so far, it will have a large number of characters available, all ready to meet a horrific end for the player's amusement. Who can we expect to see on the Mortal Kombat 11 roster? We know of at least 11 different confirmed fighters so far.
Edit: This artcile was updated on February 14 with three additional character listings.
Mortal Kombat 11 confirmed characters and fighters
Based on what we saw in the latest Mortal Kombat 11 reveal stream, the game will offer a large variety of different playable characters when it releases. However, the team only revealed eight of what appear to be 25 fighters total, a grouping that comprised just a small cluster of the overall character selection screen displayed on stream — see the image below for further details. Fortunately, there's little doubt we'll learn about the other fighters in the weeks ahead, but for now, we just have the first 11.
The roster of confirmed characters in Mortal Kombat 11 includes:
- Sonya Blade
- Shao Kahn (DLC fighter)
Geras is an entirely new character in the Mortal Kombat series. A close associate of Kronika, the time-bending sorceress that plays a pivotal role in the game's plot, Geras can make use of time- and sand-based attacks in combat. Check out his fighting style in the new Geras reveal trailer below.
Baraka also makes his return in Mortal Kombat 11. This fan-favorite character seems explicitly designed to end lives with gruesome acts of violence, and there's little surprise that his revealed Fatal Blows and Fatalities are over-the-top gory — like rip-off-your-face-and-eat-your-brain gory.
Much ado was also given to Sonya Blade, a character whose performance capture and voice has been provided by former MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, who is apparently a huge fan of the fighter. Like Rousey, Sonya has more than a few new tricks up her sleeve, and her most powerful attacks are suitably bloody.
The rest of the confirmed fighters in Mortak Kombat 11 all made appearances in the latest reveal stream, and some, like Raiden, will play a big part in the story to come. Aside from an extremely brief teaser for Kabal, the stream also revealed that Shao Kahn would be the first DLC fighter to arrive in the game as a reward for players who pre-order ahead of the release date. And, because the team at NetherRealm studios knows just what series fans want, they put together a fresh new Mortal Kombat 11 fatalities trailer, which showcases the remaining fighters in typical violent fashion.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 26, 2019. Until then, keep it tuned to Shacknews' Mortal Kombat 11 home page for all the latest news, trailers, and guides.
