Think of how the PS2 enabled GTA 3, 360 enabled Oblivion, 486 enabled Quake... I'm still thinking of my answer :(

PC devs need to be blogging more about what hardware would enable them to unleash better software.
quad cores? 8GB ram? DX11+++? that shit is already here, but games still are locked to the lowest common denominator now - the console. that's the floor and the ceiling for game development.
skyrim and rage look promising, but we really need to think about what sells. people don't like strictly open worlds, and they don't like strictly scripted. there will always be the same fundamental game design and pacing issue....
