Think of how the PS2 enabled GTA 3, 360 enabled Oblivion, 486 enabled Quake... I'm still thinking of my answer :(

For example compare a rogue-like (rogue, diablo, desktop dungeons)
There's high replayability because these games have randomly generated levels.
Now on the other end we have Oblivion, Fallout, etc.
Massive rpgs with fixed stories.
If we could have a breakthrough technology that could dynamically generate a game world randomly with the detail level of oblivion, that game would be a new level of replayability.
