Recruit a friend for World of Warcraft, get a winged panther mount

Every so often, Blizzard enlists its still faithful World of Warcraft players to bring new blood into the game for a free item. It's that time again, and the prize this time is yet another new mount, the Obsidian Nightwing.

There is a difference in this mount, though. This time, you become the winged panther and players will get to ride on your back. With the debut of the new mount, Blizzard is retiring the X-53 Touring Rocket as a Recruit-a-Friend reward.

WoW players get instant restoration of lost items

WoW players get instant restoration of lost items

Usually when preparing for a raid in World of Warcraft, I'd disenchant a bunch of items to get enchants ready for any new gear I won. Every once in a while, I'd get sidetracked and come back to DE a vital piece of epic gear instead of the trash I had intended. Panic usually ensued.

Shack PSA: World of Warcraft Annual Pass offer ends soon

Though it's surely madness to suggest that anyone will have time to play both Diablo III and World of Warcraft, Blizzard is hoping a few brave or foolhardy souls will try. WoW's Annual Pass offer, which includes Mists of Pandaria beta access and Diablo 3 for free, ends on Monday, April 30, so consider this a reminder for the mad.

Fans choose new WoW Monopoly pieces

Fans choose new WoW Monopoly pieces

There are plenty of iconic images from the World of Warcraft game and lore. I can come up with at least 25 off the top of my head. So when it came time for Blizzard to choose which icons would be best suited as playing pieces for the upcoming Monopoly World of Warcraft board game, they narrowed it down to 10 and then asked the players to narrow it down to six.

Blizzard details Mists of Pandaria's plot

World of Warcraft's Mists of Pandaria expansion is deceptively dark. Beyond the adorable panda bears with martial arts skills, it's a story of bringing war to an otherwise peaceful utopia. Blizzard VP of Creative Development Chris Metzen has shared some thoughts on the expansion's tone and plot.

Pandaria to change Raid Finder looting rules

Joining up with unknown groups for World of Warcraft instances can be a pain, especially if you have unscrupulous sorts that like to ninja need loot and drop group. World of Warcraft subscriptions continue to decline; majority in the east

World of Warcraft subscriptions continue to decline; majority in the east

During Activision Blizzard's investor relations call earlier today, Blizzard boss Michael Morhaime revealed that subscriptions for the hugely successful MMO have dropped to 10.3 million active subscribers for the end of the company's fiscal third quarter. Approximately 800,000 users have walked away from the WoW universe during the period, based on Activision Blizzard's fiscal second quarter investor relations call, where Morhaime noted subscriptions for the game had dipped to 11.1 million.

Though Blizzard doesn't divulge forecasts on "subscribership levels," Morhaime noted that "the majority of the declines were in the east." Morhaime added that China still represents "more than half" of World of Warcraft's global player base.

Blizzard planning six 'proven' releases by 2014

Blizzard planning six 'proven' releases by 2014

Activision Blizzard COO Thomas Tippl is expecting Blizzard to release six "proven property" releases over the next three years. Tippl said at the Citi 2011 Technology Conference that this will include two expansion packs for World of Warcraft, the remaining two pieces of StarCraft 2, and Diablo III.

This would mean that Blizzard expects the third StarCraft 2 sub-game, Legacy of the Void, to hit by the end of 2014. The sixth release is a possible Diablo 3 expansion, but speculation is swirling that the Titan project could hit in that time frame too.
