I was afraid of this actually. I just upgraded the API to included post categories, and it looks like I have to force NWS to off. I know it sucks.

Sure, the iPhone is a fairly closed platform but the drawbacks are mostly reasonable. And if you really want a specific app, the coder can make a copy tied specifically to your phone.
And conversely, no other phone has nearly as good software distribution platform. Most phones are locked down far, far, far farfarfarfararfafasfasdfasdas more, and those that aren't locked down require a lot of user knowledge to install software plus they don't even have a software store (S60, WinMo).
