You Be Jank! The best Ubisoft game YOU (PROBABLY) NEVER PLAYED IS: WATCH DOGS 2

Released in 2016 with less-than-stellar sales, but above average critical acclaim, I think Ubisoft's WATCH DOGS 2 deserves another look.

I've been enjoying a PC gaming Renaissance of sorts, collecting games from the EGS store, STEAM, and developers like Ubisoft, all who are trying to gain new followers for their platforms by enticing gamers with FREE STUFF!

So I grabbed a free copy of WATCH DOGS 2 from UPLAY earlier this summer but didn't rush to play it. I'd already finished the game twice on the PS4.

Now that its sequel WATCH DOGS LEGION is out, I thought it might be fun to revisit (possibly) my favourite Ubisoft open world game, but for the first time in glorious 4K resolution on a PC, and using the free high res texture pack.

As reported by David Craddock, WATCH DOGS 2 had lower sales but higher critical acclaim, which always bugged me. Ubisoft at the time were taking hits from jaded gamers who cried "JANK!" and I feel like Watch Dogs 2 got lost in the shuffle.

The Shacknews review score for Watch Dogs 2 (back in 2016) was a very respectable 8 out of 10.

But one of the review's only 2 "cons""Seamless multiplayer" wasn't operational at the time of writing — has since become a big part of the WATCH DOGS 2 experience.

I could go on for paragraphs about how much I love this game, but YouTuber "Whitelight" has done a terrific retrospective on (maybe) Ubi's most underrated open world game.

I need to play thru the DLC, I enjoyed the game but by the time I finished the final mission, I was ready to put it down for a while. Gameplay was excellent but I felt like the story sorta falls apart in the second half. As someone who didn't play the first Watch Dogs at all, I felt like T-Bone was kind of forced into the story and didn't make a lot of sense to me... they sort of let him just roll into their group and start calling shots, you start to see a little tension over that which makes sense but then it's kinda swept under the rug. I thought they were setting it up for T-Bone to turn on them, which I think would have been a great plot twist... but nah, T-Bone is a good guy from the first game so everything is fine and they're all cool with this old dude coming in and telling everybody what to do. Cause he's a legend or something.

I've actually never played the DLC for Watch Dogs 2! I keep waiting for the Season Pass to go super cheap but I never see it when I can afford it.

I didn't play a ton of it but it gave me better PS2/Xbox era GTA vibes (when the series was still fun and fresh nonsense) than more recent GTA entries (which sorta want to be more of a sim/story but don't have the chops for it and end up in an awkward middle ground between arcade and sim)

I really need to go back and finish this game. I enjoyed it, just got distracted by other games and never got back to it.

The RC car stealth missions made me turn it off and never go back to it.

Were you playing on PC or console? KB or controller? I’m replaying on PC but using an XBONE controller so it feels familiar.
