Destiny 2 raid building and preparing is almost over

No matter how prepared I try to be, Bungie always surprises us with the raids.

With the next season of Destiny 2 only a week away and the launch of the new raid following close behind, it’s the only thing I’ve been capable of thinking about recently. My preparation for a new season is usually pretty relaxed, almost routine. I finish up quests, tie up loose ends, and generally kick back and have fun. This season I am hoarding bounties, farming for weapons, finishing catalysts, and investigating ideal builds. I’ve got my serious pants on.

I wrote about my bounty hoarding ways a couple of weeks ago, and since then I’ve filled up my pockets on each character. The only thing to do is to swap out daily bounties for weekly bounties as they pop up. The real focus now is to try and farm out some red borders, ideal rolls, and start crafting some builds.

In terms of weapons for the raid, a day one experience is going to be drastically different to clears that occur in the latter half of a season. There are the usual suspects like Tractor Cannon, Izanagi’s Burden and Divinity, but Exotics are only half the battle.

I’m currently sitting on a lovely random drop Thoughtless featuring Overflow and Firing Line. With 10 rounds in one magazine, I ought to be putting out a whole lot of damage. There are also a few other Snipers I’m toying with, including a Fugue-55 and IKELOS, featuring Auto-Loading/Firing Line and Fourth Time’s the Charm, respectively.

There’s also something to be said about using double Special with Slug Shotguns. Though it lacks Recombination, I do have Reconstruction available. Then there’s the classic First In, Last Out with Auto-Loading/Vorpal Weapon. Likely only useful in the Golgoroth fight and that’s assuming slugs aren’t hit with a nerf or adjustment.

One weapon that I am actively pursuing is a Scout Rifle with Explosive Payload and Shoot to Loot. These apparently increase how much heavy a brick nets you, making it potentially a lifesaver during a boss fight where heavy ammo is at a premium.

On the actual build side of the equation, I’m still a few days off of working out what to do. There are the three main types of Combat Style mods that will be useful: Charged with Light, Elemental Wells, and Warmind Cells. I’m leaning towards going with survivability first and then switching to DPS focus as the team becomes more comfortable with an encounter and needs damage.

Font of Might is going to be a must-use mod. The additional weapon damage when using weapons that match your subclass could help get a boss clear over the line. Well of Life may also be a worthy option, especially as we lose Classy Restoration and go back to being not-totally-unkillable machines of war.

I do have some slight trepidation as we approach the release of the next raid in Destiny 2. Though I’m familiar with both options (King’s Fall and Wrath of the Machine), the challenges are quite difficult, with Vault of Glass day one being rather brutal. How are you fairing with your own builds? Let me know what you’re rocking!

The preparation for the next Destiny 2 raid has been a nightly focus for me over the past few weeks. With bounties successfully hoarded, all that’s left to do is theorycraft raid strategies, tinker with builds, and farm perfect weapons. Are you preparing for the raid?
