"Did you miss me?"

Nintendo concluded today's Nintendo Direct with an update on Bayonetta 2. Platinum's sequel received a new trailer, showing off the title character's new character design, as well as some insight into the game's narrative. Also, it features guns! Lots of guns!

The new Bayonetta 2 trailer gives some insight into the game's story, as Bayonetta plunges into the depths of Purgatorio, a land filled with large monsters, dragons, and machines. The game will also include the new Witch Time and Umbran Climax mechanics that allows her to deliver more punishment to surrounding enemies. Watch the trailer below and try not to let your eyeballs melt over the sheer awesome.

Bayonetta 2 will release exclusively on Wii U later this year.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Hah, there's the surfing level that Kamiya was dreaming of for a part in the early chapters of the first game. Also, DAMN, they're showing a lot of fully-animated cinematic sequences; hopefully they got a lot more mocap time than they did in the first game.

Yeah. It would have been much better if Nintendo followed everybody else and said Fuck You Sega and let it die. That way nobody would get it and nobody would complain.

Can we not go back to the Catch-22 of:

"Man, Nintendo needs more third-party titles. Why doesn't Nintendo have any third-party support?"
      **3rd party title revealed**
"Why is this third-party title only on Nintendo?"

Seriously. I hate repeating this, but Bayonetta 2 most likely wouldn't have been greenlit for production without Nintendo's help.

This is entirely true and people seem to not realize this.

I think people realize it, but still hate it.

Hell, I can't fathom how it wasn't successful enough for a sequel on more mainstream platforms. It was easily one of the best games I've played in that genre, and I've seen far worse titles get sequel after sequel.

Sega's been under a bit more financial pressure lately, especially with Sammy wanting the Sega division to carry their weight. That said, they had enough in the bank to acquire Relic from the THQ bankruptcy, and Index Holdings (parent company of Atlus).

Truth. In fact, it was when I learned of Nintendo supporting it that I bought a WiiU in anticipation. That said, I thought it'd be out a bit sooner, but there's been plenty of good stuff on the WiiU to tide me over while I wait.

I'm buying it for sure. The original is just off the wall crazy in a good way.

Nice, but not enough to warrant a wii-u and I absolutely loved the first.

I don't see why not. It was worth buying a 360 just to play the first a second time through with marginally better graphics and framerate. It was like spending a couple c-notes on a new vidcard just to play an old favorite with max graphics. All I know is I'm so where ever the sequel appears.

I wish a release date would be announced for this and X already.

So awesome that Nintendo actually went and put money on the line for both of these projects.

Neither of them would've been ever even done without Nintendo acting as publisher.

Sega wanted to let Bayonetta die and nobody wanted to let MonolithSoft make their marvellous games.

Can I play it with a controller other than the giant misshapen tablet? That thing is ridiculously uncomfortable.
