Gran Turismo 5 has released a version 1.07 patch, which adds the GT Academy and Friend Ranking features. The EU PlayStation Blog details the latest updates.

The GT Academy 2011 functionality prepares the game for this year's tournament, the goal of which is ultimately to turn a fan into a real race car driver. You need to be aged 18 or older, a European resident, and perhaps a little crazy. This is similar to the US tournament that began in December.

Friend Rankings add the oft-requested friend leaderboard functionality, making it easier to brag. The update also included a few bug fixes, including adjustments to performance point calculation and car trading.

Previous updates include upgraded server infrastructure, mechanical damage in online races, seasonal events, an online dealership, various tweaks, the addition of the performance points system, remote races, course maker adjustments, and more.

You can say a lot about GT5, and we have, but you can't say it lacks for updates.

My theory is that he had some sort of automated post tool that greened shit for him. Nobody could be that fucking consistent about it otherwise.

Newshack broke it, so he's operating manually - thus a few fuckups.

When you can get the game new and sealed, people won't be buying it from Ebay, especially from sellers with very little reputation. I know i wouldn't anyway, when i can go across the street and get it shiny and new from the shop straight away.

Is it that bad eh? I know the physics blow compared with Forza or Shift, but the graphics sure do look nice.

Only some tracks look nice, same goes for the cars. Still plenty of "premium" stuff to go around but having that constant blend both in one game makes it feel like an unfinished product.

We played the shit out of it, more than enough to get tired of the grindy progression and racing the crappy AI. The physics aren't even that bad, but the game itself is.

I just want to race all the cars with a friend on split screen without having to race 500 hours to unlock all the cars... And then only be able to load 100 at a time into my favorites.

there's still a lot to do, but they're moving in the right direction.

i applaud these updates. while i'm still jumping up and down in anticipation for Shift 2 (as the first title had the best cockpit experience i've ever raced,) GT5 is slowly becoming the game Kaz imagined.

like i said, still need lots more premium cars, premium tracks as pyide pointed out.

Did they fix the brake balance (50:50 on every car) and added tire pressure and width yet?

you could mess with the brake balance at least a few patches ago

Yes, but you have to do that with every car you buy. I'd prefer the cars to be just setup like the real thing by default.

i was disappoint that the last seasonal events update didn't have any bonus races, those were easy money

i'm kind of surprised there aren't ways to make money more quickly once you hit a certain level or something. half the fun of the late game is just picking up random cars you like, modding them, and taking them out on the track. It just sucks when there are multiple cars that require 5+ million

Have they fixed the game yet? Because when it came out, everyone was saying the latest Forza was better.
