In a surprising move by Microsoft during the Xbox E3 press conference, State of Decay 2 Heartland was announced and released all in one go. This announcement was made alongside a full gameplay trailer, please see it below!

State of Decay 2 Heartland

In State of Decay 2, players will be returning to Trumbull Valley in Heartland as part of a brand new campaign. This new narrative lets you choose from two different storylines where each one faces new threats, more aggressive enemies, and challenges never before undertaken.

Part of the surprise of this announcement was that the expansion was released immediately! Players are able to pick it up through the Xbox Store or the Windows Store right now. Furthermore, anyone with Xbox Game Pass can access it. Xbox Game Pass continues to be an incredibly valuable services for players and one that keeps getting better and better.

State of Decay 2 has only just received a massive update in the form of the Choose Your Own Apocalypse. This expansion added the Dead Zone and Nightmare Zone, as well as the Blood Plague Juggernaut, a dangerous new zombie.

We reviewed State of Decay 2 quite favourably when it released last year on May 22. We had this to say about Undead Labs’ zombie title:

State of Decay 2 is repetitive, but fun when it works. When it doesn’t, you'd be forgiven for a few rage quits. In a game where any misstep can result in losing an important survivor for good, to have this happen not due to my own mistakes, but a bug or glitch, is frustrating. The RPG progression of survivors mixed in with the community building makes the repetitive structure work and rewards players that wish to continue cultivating new communities.  The game comes at half the price of most high-profile releases or as part of the Game Pass library and there's plenty bang for your buck. Hopefully, the developers will continue to iron out the game's fixable issues over time.

Be sure to keep it locked to Shacknews during E3 2019 as we cover the latest games and announcements, and interview developers about their games on the Shacknews Twitch channel.
