Astroneer delays release date to February 2019

The interplanetary survival sandbox Astroneer will miss the 2018 release window.

System Era Softworks' Astroneer has officially been dated for release on Xbox One and Windows 10 on February 6, 2019.

Previously, Astroneer's Joe Tirado mentioned to Shacknews that the team was aiming for a December 2018 release as recently as PAX West. Now it appears that date has indeed shifted for next year. The game has been in Early Access since December 2016, so hopefully this is the official release date and there isn't any more cause to wait.

The game will feature a swath of new content when it lands, including a new exploration-focused adventure that includes seven new planets teeming with dangerous flora, terrain, and a wide variety of mysterious structures to explore along with new narrative elements. The game's dedicated servers will allow adventurers to build bases in an asynchronous manner through Xbox One and PC cross-play as well.

Currently, you can purchase Astoneer via Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview for $19.99, but it will be going up in price to $29.99 on November 16, 2018. With the price increase comes a new "Retro" suit exclusively for Early Access supporters.

Sad that this article, about an amazing game developed by a long time Shacker, has a downbeat theme to it.

This should be a celebration, not a "missed target".

Also, you contradict yourself within the article by saying "Officially been dated" and then saying in the next paragraph "Hopefully this is the official release date"

I think the word you were looking for is "tone," not "theme." Nothing downbeat about it, just stating facts here. No contradictions, either. Sure, they gave a release date. That could change though, no?

i dont see how you are inferring this whole downbeat feeling from this article

          Really?

The article leads with "delay" and then goes on to infer that "hopefully this is official"

          Quite pessimistic.

I would think that an amazing game made by a long time community member, who is now seeing his epic vision realized, would be more celebratory in tone.

Joe told us during interviews at E3 and PAX West that the game would have a December 2018 release. Today’s news is a delay of that expected release date.

              Oh, I hear you.

Like I said, just disappointing that the end of this journey to an official release date is framed as a negative and not as a celebration considering his connection to the community.

framed as a negative, dude did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? wtf are you smoking, its not out yet, they are reporting that its not out yet and is delayed!

Nah, I see what he’s saying. I get that it’s just straight factual reporting, but it definitely has a *slightly* pessimistic tone.

Well maybe our review of the game will have more of a celebratory tone.

so because it's a shacker you think they should propagandize the article? because it looks like it's the facts to me

I'll be up to my eyeballs in zombies when REmake 2 hits at the end of January. No time for space exploration when Leon and Claire are ready to rock!

Yeah. Not to mention Sekiro. Or Ace Combat 7.

Q1 is going to be crazy.

Forgot Sekiro was going to be that soon. I kinda put it out of mind after I learned it has no RPG elements at all. Hope it's good anyway.

I fired it back up recently and oh man it's such a nice game to just relax and dig caves and try not to die.

I don't even care about building a rover or spaceship or anything, I just like wandering through the caves and then getting killed by a gas cloud randomly.

I don't even save the game when I'm done, I just alt+f4, and launch a new astroneer every time I load the game up.
