Meet the Shacknews Team

Asif Khan, Shacknews Editor-in-Chief

Asif Khan, Editor-in-Chief

Asif Khan is the CEO and majority shareholder of Shacknews. He began his career in video game journalism as a freelancer in 2001 for Tendobox.com. Asif is a CPA and was formerly an investment adviser representative. After much success in his own personal investments, he retired from his day job in financial services and is currently focused on new private investments.

His favorite PC game of all time is Duke Nukem 3D, and he is an unapologetic fan of most things Nintendo. Asif first frequented the Shack when it was sCary's Shugashack to find all things Quake. When he is not immersed in investments or gaming he is a purveyor of fine electronic music. Asif also has an irrational love of Cleveland sports. He can be reached at asif.khan@shacknews.com or on Twitter @technosucks.
Bill Lavoy, Shacknews Managing Editor

Bill Lavoy, Managing Editor

Bill is a guide writer who got his start in the industry by working for Prima Games in 2013, then USgamer in late 2014, where he began dabbling in SEO and developing strategies to increase traffic through guide writing. In 2016 he joined Greenlit Content, where he's continued to develop his SEO skills and guide-writing ability.

While he continues to work with Greenlit Content even today, Bill joined Shacknews in 2017 and began focusing on creating a guides program and working with Asif to improve both the backend and editorial SEO.

Bill tends to work long days, but almost never misses a Toronto Maple Leafs game, and is a season ticket holder of the London Knights. If he's not working or watching hockey, however, he's probably playing Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3, or thinking of creative ways to explain to Asif why he hasn't finished Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild yet.

Bill can be reached via email at bill.lavoy@shacknews.com, or you can reach out to him via Twitter @RumpoPlays.
Sam Chandler, Shacknews Guides Editor

Sam Chandler, Guides Editor

Sam Chandler is one of the lead Guide Editors for Shacknews, specializing in delivering high-quality and easy-to-digest information for gamers of all creeds. When he’s not tracking down and documenting collectibles, he's crafting in-depth guides for clearing raids or explaining in-game mechanics.

He's also the resident Australian for Shacknews, bringing an intercontinental flair to the editorial. When he's not working, he enjoys reliving his childhood by collecting Nintendo 64 games, diving head-first into the lore of the Souls series, grinding for gear in Destiny 2, or being a Pirate Legend with his partner in Sea of Thieves.

Growing up in Australia meant being disconnected from the rest of the world, but now in this digital age of connectivity, he's been able to meet some truly inspirational people.

You can contact him via email at sam.chandler@shacknews.com or connect with him on Twitter for some friendly banter: @SamuelChandler.
Josh Hawkins, Shacknews Guides Editor

Josh Hawkins, Guides Editor

Joshua holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and has been exploring the world of video games for as long as he can remember. He enjoys everything from large-scale RPGs to small, bite-size indie gems and everything in between.

You can reach him at joshua.hawkins@shacknews.com or reach out to him on Twitter @DatRageGuy.
Kevin Tucker, Shacknews Guides Editor

Kevin S. Tucker, Guides Editor

Shacknews' resident guide guru and studious SEO apprentice Kevin S. Tucker has apparently been gaming since before he can remember, having been introduced to the Nintendo Entertainment System at just two years old. His love affair with gaming and computer technology continued undeterred for decades, and would ultimately push him to study computer programming and web development from middle school all the way through college. Eventually, he realized that his love of games wasn't in the creation, but rather in the exploration of digital worlds, and so he began to pursue a career in video games journalism.

As luck would have it, his keen interest in evolving technology and a nearly insatiable curiosity granted him the insight needed to better understand the relationship between web content and search engine optimization. Coupled with the desire to both read and write about video games, he would eventually break into games journalism by freelancing at Spawn Kill back in 2009, and would later find work writing for G4@Syfygames, Modojo, and finally Shacknews, where he now holds the distinguished position of Guides Editor.

Outside of work, he enjoys wrenching on motorcycles, reading fantasy and science fiction, and playing electric bass. Follow him on Twitter @dukeofgnar for various thoughts, witticisms, and games industry commentary, or contact him via email at kevin.tucker@shacknews.com.
David L. Craddock, Shacknews Long Reads Editor

David L. Craddock, Long Reads Editor

David L. Craddock writes long-read features that take readers behind closed doors to explore the making of games and the culture of the industry, and spearheads multimedia efforts such as 24 'Til Launch documentary-style features that are published in tandem with long reads. He also co-hosts the Shacknews' Shack Cast alongside CEO and editor-in-chief Asif Khan, and Lola, the site's chairpet of the board.

David has been a published writer since 2004, and is the author of over a dozen books including the Stay Awhile and Listen series that chronicles the history of Diablo developer Blizzard North and World of WarCraft developer Blizzard Entertainment; the Gairden Chronicles series of epic fantasy novels for young adults; and Shovel Knight (Boss Fight Books). David can be reached at david.craddock@shacknews.com, and on Twitter @davidlcraddock.
Blake Morse, Shacknews Reviews Editor

Blake Morse, Reviews Editor

Blake Morse has been covering the world of video games for nearly a decade and a half, and he really wishes you darn kids would get off his lawn. Nowadays he’s in charge of the sadistic task of giving writers free video games and forcing them all to play through them. Although he is a strong and powerful reviews leader, he is also very benevolent and well-regarded by his people. Blake also doubles as the color commentator host for all of Shacknews’ Electronic Sports events, so keep an eye out for him when you’re watching any of our competitions—he’s pretty hard to miss.

When Blake isn’t doing the video games thing he spends most of his time collecting comics, retro games, and nerdy toys. And when he’s not doing any of that geeky stuff he plays a bunch of music with his bands Cartoon Violence (www.cartoonviolencemusic.com) and Kids Eat Free (www.KidsEatFree.bandcamp.com). He will probably think you are a jerk if you don't listen to his music, but he's polite enough to keep it to himself. You can email him at blake.morse@shacknews.com or follow him on Twitter and Instagram as @ProfRobot.
Ozzie Mejia, Shacknews Senior Editor

Ozzie Mejia, Senior Editor

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Follow him on Twitter at @Ozz_Mejia for musings and random shenanigans, or contact him via email at ozzie@shacknews.com.
Brittany Vincent, Shacknews Senior Editor

Brittany Vincent, Senior Editor

Brittany Vincent has been covering video games and tech for 11 years for publications like G4, Popular Science, Playboy, Empire, Complex, IGN, GamesRadar, Polygon, Kotaku, Maxim, GameSpot, Variety, Rolling Stone, Yahoo and more. She's also appeared as a speaker at video game conventions like PAX East and has coordinated social media for companies like CNET.

When she's not writing or gaming, she's looking for the next great visual novel in the vein of Saya no Uta. Here at Shacknews, she handles just about any task that needs doing and you can find her perched with her laptop at any given hour working on a dozen projects at once. Email her at brittany.vincent@shacknews.com and follow her on Twitter @MolotovCupcake.
Chris Jarrard, Tech Editor

Chris Jarrard, Tech Editor

Chris began his love of technology and gaming at a very early age. Graduating from the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles to PC gaming in the mid-90s, he has been an avid enthusiast of PC hardware and related gadgets for more than 25 years. He built his first PC with the legendary Celeron 300A and Abit BH6 motherboard back in 1998. His favorite games include Super Mario 64, Half-Life, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and Carmageddon.

When not playing games or fiddling with hardware, you can find Chris eating breakfast or thinking about the next time he will be able to eat breakfast. He believes it is the most important meal of the day and that breakfast food is the best type of food. Between breakfasts, he spends most of his time listening to music or watching those heartbreaking dog rescue videos on Youtube that turn him into an emotional wreck.

If you want to talk about PC hardware, or if you have a link to a really good tear-jerking dog rescue video, hit him up at chris.jarrard@shacknews.com or on Twitter @crbz_jarrard.

Greg spent 5 years learning the trades of the Television/Film industry and has spent time editing shows like Little People, Big World, John and Kate Plus 8, and several other E! Network shows & promos.

By a chance meeting, Greg bumped into John Gaudiosi, and with some hard work and a little bit of luck, was able to jump into the amazing world of video game journalism. Donovan Erskine, Intern Extraordinaire

Donovan Erskine, Intern Extraordinaire

Donovan is a young journalist from Maryland who likes to game. His oldest gaming memory is playing Pajama Sam on his mom's desktop during weekends. Pokémon Emerald, Halo 2, and the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 were some of the most influential titles that helped awaken his love for video games. Donovan is currently studying broadcast journalism at Bowie State University with hopes to join the Shacknews team full-time after graduation. He is a huge Star Wars nerd and film fanatic that will talk with you about movies and games all day.

Donovan found his way onto the Shacknews roster through the power of social media. After tweeting to CEO and Editor in Chief Asif Khan about the site, he was brought on as an intern to help the team with news, reviews, and guides in between school work. Since coming aboard, Donovan has had the honor of covering events such as E3 and PAX East alongside the rest of the illustrious Shacknews staff. You can contact him at donovan.erskine@shacknews.com or follow him on Twitter @Donimals_.
