What's your favorite mod of all time?

What's your favorite mod of all time?

What's the one mod that stands out in your head as your favorite of all time?

x-Rumpo-x

I've recently started digging back into Fallout 4, one of my favorite games to return to for a playthrough once a year. Of course, it's much better with some mods to fix and enhance the experience. Besides some of the obviously Fallout 4 mods, my favorite is one called Scrapping Machine. This mod allows you to scrap the junk you pick up in the game, breaking it down into the raw components you need for crafting. It's such a simple mod, but it alleviates the need for dropping all your crap on the ground and manually breaking it down. It's not the only must-have mod for me in Fallout 4, but it swooped in and solved a problem for me that I truthfully didn't think there was a solution for.

My pick might be odd to some, but it's just something that makes my time in Fallout 4 much more enjoyable. What's your pick for your favorite mod that you've ever used?

Rocket Arena 2 for Quake 2 will forever be my one true love. I put more time into that game than any other game, ever.

Generations Arena for Quake 3 is a very close second. I worked on that team as community manager for years. Total blast to play.

soooo you can still play it! I got my entire family playing it last year and got to show off my l33t DM skills.

but yeah it was a ton of fun adding new runes and playing with the larger community, almost of whom were awesome people. Slot Zero (the guy who now maintains the mod) was a guy who wandered onto my RQ test server one day and never left :)

yeah every once in a while I'll log back in and yeah, same. Those original Quake FPS skills are quite lasting apparently.

Everyone once in a while I get an itch to port RQ to a more modern FPS engine but those scenes (for FPSs at least) are SO much more fragmented now :(

      The Dark Mod: http://www.thedarkmod.com/main/

A complete recreation of Thief's gameplay and a familiar setting within the Doom 3 engine.

First it was a mod, but with Doom 3 being GPL'd it's now a completely standalone game with dozens of good fan missions available.

It comes with one solid mission by default and you can download more through the client itself.

I can recommend a number of missions if anyone is interested, but The Painter's Wife came out alongside the most recent major version and is a very solid first choice, once you've gone through the tutorial and included story mission.

The NewDark fan engine that enhances Thief Gold, Thief II and System Shock 2 would be another very notable choice, though whether that's a "mod" depends on your definition.

I remember the Stunts mod in the early days of BF1942. Good times. I think a late version of the BF1942 game gimped the physics of the game so that the stunts mod wouldn't work as expected.

Quake Team Fortress is the first that came to mind. It wins by virtue of it coming out when I was younger, but it introduced classes to the capture the flag formula. Later with the canalzon map, capture areas/points were I troyce in an asymmetric map style which was really cool.

Me too, loved AHL. I’d crank Rammstein and hand cannon some fools. At my best I was a monster with throwing knives, which were instant kills if you got someone in the head, but you only had ten, they arced and took time to travel. Crazy satisfying to nail though.

Half-Life truly was a golden age of modding, so very many and varied mods.

I loved the whole HL1 mod scene and was like an addict visiting PlanetHalfLife all day hoping for news of some new mod to check out when I got home that night. So much fun stuff got made for HL1, and I fell into a deep deep hole playing CS for years. I’d come home from work, have dinner with Mary, and disappear for hours every night. I’ll probably never spend as much time playing another game in my life.

Killer Commandos for Battlefield 1942. It was based on an idea for a mod that was so bad it was good.

Dragons that shoot fire and drop explosive turds
Additional players can ride in the Dragon's claws and shoot Machine Guns

      Zepplins that throw rocks

Monster trucks with nitro thrusters to launch them in the air to counter the dragons (for balance of course)
      Monster truck can self destruct
Second player position in truck has additional nitro thrusters

Vin Disel health guage (ala Doom baby!)

They left off the "jet packs" which were a rocket that you held in your hands and it had a limited amount of thrust that recharged. So if you used it all to go straight up, well you fucked up. Also if you used the jet pack while standing on the ground, there was about an 80% chance you would skate along the ground really fast instead of taking off, and the next tiny angle change in the ground mesh would kill you from fall damage.
