While I’ve got things I need to watch, I feel like there’s got to be shows out there that I’ve missed.

SerfaSam

As we ascertained last week, I love reading. When I’m not reading I’m playing video games, and when I’m doing neither of those, I’m watching TV or movies (or working out). Right now, I feel like I’m kind of treading water until the shows I’ve been watching receive additional seasons or they become available in my region – being in Australia means I need to wait longer for my content fix.

So what have you been watching lately? Are there any TV shows that have kind of sneaked by under the radar recently that are worth investigating? Here’s a look at some I’ve been watching over the past couple of months, and ones I'm looking forward to seeing next.

Evil

Evil kind of took me by surprise. The only thing I knew about this was that it had good monsters and was kind of like X-Files but for supernatural stuff. I must admit, I’m not usually a proponent of horror TV shows or movies, I just don’t enjoy the sensation of being scared that I receive from them (but horror games are fine? Go figure). I’m chomping at the bit to get access to season 2 – it’s currently not available anywhere in Australia, at least from what I can tell.

Resident Alien

This certainly wasn’t the greatest show ever created, but Alan Tudyk does such a stellar job as the alien and the story is so friendly that I kind of fell in love with it. I don’t know if we’ll see many season of it, but it’s good for a bit of fun. It’s like a live action Invader Zim.

The Terror: Infamy

I absolutely loved the first season of the Terror, and the second season was just as incredible. I learned a lot about what happened to the Japanese-American citizens during World War 2, and it was rather heartbreaking. I love that the show uses supernatural elements and entwines it into the real horror that is human nature.

Rick and Morty

Yes, I know, shut up. But I dig the outrageous, fantastical sci-fi nature of the show. I dislike what the show has become in the eyes of the public, but I think it’s still possible to enjoy it. I get a kick out of the whacky adventures showcased and I’m loving Summer’s involvement in the escapades too. Still working through this season, but it's so bite-sized that I'll be done soon.

Your Honor

Though it was a while ago now, I did really enjoy watching through Your Honor, featuring Bryan Cranston. The tension was palpable and the story unravelled in ways I wasn’t anticipating. There was this great push and pull for who you were rooting for and against. It’s always refreshing when the “bad guy” and “good guy” aren’t the usual suspects.

Invincible

This was just pure magic. I don’t tend to watch animated TV series, anime or otherwise, but this one was superb and one I hope receives more love. Seth Rogen has attached himself to a lot of great shows recently, so perhaps there’s more in his catalogue that I ought to investigate.

I’m sure there are some others that I’m forgetting. But those feel like the most recent viewings I’ve managed. There’s now this interminable wait for the last season of Better Call Saul, the start of the Foundation TV series, the Three-Body Problem coming next year, and of course a new season of The Witcher. I've also got The Expanse on my to-watch list and even the entire run of X-Files.

But what have you been watching and what are you looking forward to seeing?

It is America-centric but I love Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Who Is America', he poses as characters a la Borat and interviews actual US politicians and gets them to say and do astounding things

Here is a ten minute clip of one of the segments https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkXeMoBPSDk

It says Showtime only but Amazon rents it streaming and I bought the DVDs

      Thank you for using Cortex!!!!!

Oh, I did spend a bit of time watching that. Sacha's commentary on the American way of life is always so interesting. I only know of the American Way via media, so I do wonder how closely his stuff hits home!

His stuff is probably closer to actuality than whatever you see in US media. Except for Breaking Bad, you really do have to sell drugs if you have medical bills

Lately been really into Loudermilk, Ted Lasso, and Reservation Dogs.

Also caught Watchmen (2019 series) and Mare of Easttown (both excellent).

Apparently the diminutive brothers that steal the show are a real life rap duo. They were on AGT and everything.

We really need to get these guys paired up with Marc Rebillet for something.

If you're in the mood for some heavy drama, I cannot recommend Mare Of Eastown highly enough! Easily the best show I've watched in a while.

It was so good. I got to wander around where they filmed some of it when I visited my friend in Philly a few weeks back and I felt like a weirdo for being that excited.

The show doesn't exactly paint that town in a good light hahah. Wonder how the locals feel about it?

Haha, good question. I think the actual township is a bit outside where my friend lives, but they filmed a bunch of stuff in the huge park across the street from her, including the area where some partying happens and the body of Erin is found.

Watch Family Man on Prime. It is fucking great. Halfway through season 2 and I think it's even better than the first season.

The White Lotus was really weird and entertaining and good. It’s only 6 episodes and we plowed through it in 2 days.

Yeah it’s written, filmed and acted very well. It’s unlike anything else I’ve seen. I watched it all the way through without really knowing why or what the overall plot was.

I recently finished the first season of Peaky Blinders. That was really good.
And now we have restarted Deadwood. We never finished the series last time, so the first season will be a refresher, then it's all new to us.

Oh, and I am also watching Miami Vice on Starz. I loved the show when it was on when I was in high school, and its a nice bit of nostalgia for me. And the music is awesome too.

Really enjoyed EVIL. Haven't gotten around to Season 2 yet because of the Paramount Plus stuff but I will be starting Reservation Dogs soon.
