Sadly, I've only seen one movie for the first time since we last convened for MOVIE MONDAY.
Tully - This is the 3rd time Jason Reitman has paired with Diablo Cody (the first two were Juno and Young Adult, I haven't seen the latter). For the most part, I liked it, but it doesn't reach the heights of some of Reitman's earlier work for me - I think Up In The Air and Thank You For Smoking are phenomenal. Theron is the real star here, delivering really solid performance of a woman dealing with the harrowing difficulties of normalcy. I'm not quite sure how this film reads to people with children, but to me it was almost like a horror movie. To a degree, that seems to be the point, its very intentionally an unflattering & unglamorized portrait of motherhood. There's a plot twist near the end of the film that makes absolute sense in view of the whole movie, but still felt kind of creaky to me. I'm not sure I can say exactly why.
And, the usual MOVIE MONDAY thing:
1. Name a movie. Any movie. If I've seen it, I'll briefly tell you what I think about it. I'm sure you're dying to know.
2. If you want, we can then dig deeper in our agreement/disagreement about said movie.

L.A. Confidential is one of the best movies of the 90's, the script is so damned good.
