Report: Nintendo NX will have a Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon game within six months of release

A new report claims we should expect a new Mario and Pokemon game in addition to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

While Nintendo has been tight lipped regarding its Nintendo NX, we at least know to expect the mysterious console to release in March 2017. In the meantime, several rumors and reports have popped up that claim to reveal a number of aspects of the NX, including it having controllers that can detach from its body as well as possibly being compatible with Nintendo’s smartphone games. Today, a new report has been published that claims we could be seeing a new Mario and Pokemon games within six months of the launch of the Nintendo NX.

According to a report published by MCV, sources close to Nintendo have told the publication it would like to avoid a slow start when the Nintendo NX releases. Fans of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U know how painfully slow Nintendo has been to release first-party games on its respective systems.

In addition to possibly releasing a new Mario and Pokemon game within six months of the release of the NX, the source also claims Nintendo has already gained support from third-party publishers, which includes the likes of Square Enix, Activision, Ubisoft, Sega, and Warner Bros. The source also confirms last week’s report of Nintendo NX being able to plug into a dock to be used in a TV are “100 per cent accurate.”

Let's just hope the rumor of Nintendo unveiling its NX in September are true because we absolutely cannot stand the anticipation any longer.

This makes sense. If the NX ends up being a console/handheld hybrid (which seems all but guaranteed at this point) then Nintendo's in-house teams will no longer have to divide their talent between two platforms. That means we should see first-party games released somewhat more regularly.

Shipping a new Mario game soon after NX's release falls in line with Miyamoto's comments from E3, specifically that a new game would be ready to show at next year's event. That'll be ~3 months after the NX's release, and within the timeframe given in today's report. http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/16/e3-2016-nintendo-a-new-kind-of-mario-is-coming

So excited to see the actual reveal of NX. Interesting to hear it falling in between a PS4 and PS3 in terms of power, guess the rumors of it using next gen Tegra are fairly accurate.

Wonder what the source of those early rumors about it being a beast of a system were based on, if anything.

I'm curious what the specs on the next gen Tegra are. Also about how this thing will look.

Rumors of the next Nintendo console being a powerhouse are silly...

A reputable source said it would be using "industry leading chips". Dumb people thought that meant it would have a GTX 1090 in it. Realistic people realized it probably meant "industry leading" in the mobile space. Hence, the Tegra.

It'd be weird for Nintendo/Game Freak to release Pokemon Sun and Moon this year, and then come up with two brand-new Pokemon games next year, right? It could happen, but I wonder if they're planning (HD?) ports of Sun/Moon, or maybe two more remakes along the lines of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Could be a Pokemon side-story kind of thing or a port of Sun & Moon too.

It'd be surprising if it was something more than a HD port or new area with all the same mechanics of Sun/Moon.

I mean, with the NX and assumedly improved online features, they could really push Pokemon to be something more – but within 6 months seems too short a timeline, unless they've been secretly developing something big.

Mario's still the alpha and omega of 2D platforming for me. He just needs a reboot. I'm a big fan of the New SMB games, but Nintendo milked that series for way too long. Go back to the drawing board and come up with a new design built on the same time-tested platforming mechanics, and add a bunch of new stuff: mechanics, power-ups, level design philosophies, etc.

It's really good, but not that good. I think the styles compliment each other really well. Also, I think Sonic should've totally ripped on Rayman's current design aesthetic.

I'd get one. It has the best first-party lineup of this hardware generation, and Nintendo recently dropped the price of several of the system's best games to $19.99. http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-selects

Another point to consider: current rumors say the NX won't be backwards-compatible with Wii U. That makes the Wii U even more worth owning. The system will go down in history as hosting some of the best games of its era despite its hardware being a commercial flop.

Given the hybrid nature of the console, what are the odds that it will have a reasonably sized power supply? I am pretty sick of power bricks taking up space in my entertainment center.

I'm pretty excited for the NX, mainly because I do like the software lineup of 3DS & Wii-U and if we can get all of those developers/games on one platform would be a well worthwhile investment.

And imagine if they had additional SKU's of the station, one with a GTX 1060-level chip to SLI with, another with 1080-level chip (this could be the NX Dock 4K)

I'm really irritated about the Wii U development being all but dead, and could post all kinds of shitty comments about not giving two shits about the NX, but the sad truth is that as soon as a Mario Kart game is announced, I'm going to start looking for deals. :/

I'm tired/burned out on playing the same marios and zeldas from last console and the last one and the last one before that. Wonder if anyone else is going to make games for this system or if this is just going to be another N64 or Wii U where they chase off most 3rd party devs to other consoles.
