While eSports has exploded into a full-blown phenomenon, the folks at Blizzard have fared well aiming at the college eSports demographic. Coming off the first successful Heroes of the Dorm tournament, Blizzard is now looking to continue its college tournament for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. However, Blizzard and The eSports Association will look to introduce a few tweaks for this third tournament.
The third TeSPA Collegiate Hearthstone Championship will run with a team format, similar to Heroes of the Dorm. Three students will play one deck together at the same time, in an effort to up the school affinity and teamwork element. Teams can register on the TeSPA website, which will include all of the registration requirements.
Sign-ups are open from now through September 25, with Season Play set to kick off on September 28. The TeSPA Collegiate Hearthstone Championship Finals will see the top team from the North, South, East, and West regions face off in January 2016 with a $100,000 scholarship on the line.
Ozzie Mejia posted a new article, 3rd TeSPA Collegiate Hearthstone Championship introduces team format as registration opens
I've watched a team format game and it's kinda silly. Three dudes with their hands on their chins, casually pointing at cards and whispering. It shouldn't take three people to figure out the optimal play in a given turn.
