New Diablo project revealed via Blizzard job posting

A new unannounced Diablo project is currently underway, according to a job posting on Blizzard's careers website.

Blizzard’s careers site has posted a job listing looking for an art director for an unannounced project set in the Diablo universe.

The listing asks that potential candidates have “a passion for games with a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise.”

This job listing could hint at a number of things, with the most likely being a new expansion for Diablo 3. It could also possibly hint at a completely new Diablo game, although considering how long it took Blizzard to release Diablo 3 after Diablo 2 (nearly twelve years), we don’t see this to be as likely as a new expansion.

One piece of speculation we also thought of was the possibility of a free-to-play game set in the Diablo universe. Considering how popular Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm have become over the years, developing a new free-to-play game could also be a possibility, although we know there’s slim-to-no chance of that being the case here.

I think everyone wants the Druid. I hope that's what they go with.

I want some kind of robot milkman.

              Special builds include:
              Curdsman.
              Shadowfather.
              Jug Slinger

Seriously, I think people wanted a proper Necro class at first, but now it would just feel redundant. A Druid/Shapeshifter would be nice.

I hate this one new class per expansion bs. different classes improve replayability for me more than anything.

Yes but a ton of work has to go into a D3 class - all the skills with 5 runes each plus a bunch of legendaries and sets to catch up to the other classes.

Yeah but isn't that what I'm paying for? As cool as their semi random levels and a new act is, it is way more limited playability compared to a new class. Just not enough to convince me with one class.

To be fair, blizzard builds most of their games so that they're basically impossible to balance.

That's fine tbh. Honestly I wish the expansion ONLY had more classes. I don't really need new content or want to continue the...story.... I think the patches rolling out are doing that just fine.

This makes sense for the THIRD expansion. All signs seem to be pointing to a Blizzcon announcement for the second expansion. And if true, it's a little late in the game for them to be hiring this position for the second expansion.

Totally agree ^^^^^ on both, I hope so.

I also like them to start on Diablo 4's concept already now that be cool too, since 3 took a lot of effort to make.

I bet some small team is working on concepts for D4 but it is probably a long way off. Although D3 started out as a possible D2 expansion, so who knows. I'm all for another expansion for D3, I think there's a lot they can still do to make the end game more meaningful.

My only gripe with the Druid in D2 is that shapeshifting hides your gear. I'd rather if he were a caster with some shapeshifting oriented abilities that momentarily turn him into an animal for one attack.

They recently said Diablo 3 has sold over 30 million total, Forbes confirmed they're counting the expansion sales in that figure. Pretty sure those numbers in your post are not accurate, but it would be nice to see the full breakdown.

Doesn't really matter. Expansion doesn't function without base game, and the console version (this gen) had it rolled into a single package. There were two SKUs last gen, one with the base game, and another with everything rolled into it. Either way we're still talking about 30M units of D3 being out there.
