Cities: Skylines video details the importance of modding

Cities: Skylines has a new video out about the importance of modding and how it will serve to enhance the city builder, while developer Colossal Order has also opened up a modding section on its wiki page.

While city builders are largely judged on the strength of their freedom and their wealth of options, their life can be prolonged greatly by the use of mods. Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order recognize this and that's why they're offering up full mod tools.

Paradox has released a video today, in which Colossal developers discuss their commitment to mods and note how much they add to the overall experience. To follow up on this, a new modding page has opened up on the Cities: Skylines wiki, detailing the game's Asset Editor, Map Editor, and Modding API.

Cities: Skylines is set to hit PC on March 10. For more on modding, check out the video below and also check out the Reddit AMA that Colossal Order conducted earlier today.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I am excite. From all the dev previews and dev diary explanations this game sounds like what SimCity was suppose to be. However, because they implement the agent system, there are some issues that they "cheat" to resolve just like in SimCity.

i don't think you could simulate every person in a huge city like that and not have it crawl to a halt...

      Kind of an odd video.
Scene - in-game showing city talking about modding
cut to CEO in the subway wiping her nose
      Back to in-game footage
cut back to CEO looking over her shoulder
      back to in-game

Tangential to that, I'm looking forward to seeing what this game is going to be. I have my reservations because it seems like no one can get this genre right anymore, but I hope these guys do.

I'm looking forward to this more than anything at the moment. I've burned out on Tropico 5 after playing through the campaign 3 times.

There's really no better way to relax on a sunday than putting on something stupid from the TV / Netflix, and building a city while watching said stupid shit with one eye.

I was bored to tears last weekend, so re-installed SimCity. 3 hours later my slot was full. Fuck that.
