Heroes of the Storm update adds Jaina and Christmas skins

The newest technical alpha update for Heroes of the Storm is adding a new heroine, along with a few new extra additions.

Heroes of the Storm is preparing to ring in the holidays, so Blizzard is briefly taking the technical alpha offline. When it returns, expect a new patch and a new playable hero. Jaina Proudmoore is making the jump from World of Warcraft and Hearthstone and will bring along all of her magical abilities.

Jaina can use her Frostbolt, Blizzard, and Cone of Cold attacks to ice her enemies and slow them down, thanks, in part, to her Frost Bite trait. Her Heroic Abilities will allow her to summon a Water Elemental or use the chilling RIng of Frost to take out numerous foes at once. Let's see what Jaina can do in her new trailer.

The new patch will also pave the way for Stimpacks. Those looking to earn greater end-of-game rewards and gold will be able to purchase these Stimpacks for a helpful boost. These items will otherwise not affect the game, but will simply amplify the rewards earned at the end of each session. More information on Stimpacks can be found here.

Also, Christmas skins are coming and should be available by patch time. You can see some of those skins in the video below. There are also plenty of tweaks and balance changes to be found, so check out the full patch notes here.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

If nothing else, the skins in this game are top notch quality.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, but I was never a big DotA or LoL player.

      yes more!

Roll call for HotS Alpha players!

Might be looking to play tonight, 7-8pm-ish? (9 if I see a friend for drinks?)

I've been playing the barbarian lady (who is awesome and reminds me of the bad ass woman from Akira's graphic novel) and he is awesome. All the lifedrain. More life drain. AND HOOKS! She's a better Leona. :3

also, can we talk about Rehgar wearing a reign-deer head? That's... that's hardcore. You're celebrating "winter fest" while wearing the skin of one of the bearers of winter fest. That's tough.

Nice, Jaina seemed pretty cool, but I didn't get a chance to try her at Blizzcon. Can't wait for the new maps, either.

It will when they add The Lost Vikings. I got to try them at BlizzCon and they're really hard, but pretty cool if you can get the micro. You can control them individually or select them all as a group with hotkeys or click+drag. They don't have any active abilities, but you can talent them to have passives, like Olaf getting a charge when he gets in range of a target. They also have different stats, so Eric will run faster than the others, but be really squishy, so if you just try to run them all down a lane, you're going to get picked off. You have to either micro them so that Olaf can block guys from getting past him while the others gank or siege, or you can split them up into separate lanes and keep the enemy distracted by being all over the place.

Chen also has an ultimate where he splits into three characters, but it's very short and isn't nearly as complicated. Each gets a full health bar and does full damage, but you can only use abilities that make them spread out or group together. It's great for ganking, though, because you can easily surround a guy, blocking him in and burn him down with 3 Chens.

Hmm. I don't think there is one yet. Sylvannus will be the first hero to be able to capture enemy or neutral creeps. I don't think anyone has a global heal or friendly teleport yet.

Brightwing can teleport to heroes unless you mean something else.

Jaina is really fun! Unfortunately, they haven't removed Murky from the game yet. Looking forward to Draft Mode...
