Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has undergone some significant changes since it first launched. Version 2.1 introduced some new features, like personal housing and PvP arena battles. The game has changed to such a degree that Square Enix hopes to bring back former players with a free weekend.
The announcement explains that the free weekend will only be open to current owners of the MMO with inactive subscriptions. The free period will last from Saturday, January 11 at 12:00am PST through Monday, January 13 at 12:00am PST. Folks can download the client in advance.
If Final Fantasy XIV's new features are enough to sway returning players, they'll be able to return to the game at the standard $14.99 30-day subscription fee. The MMO was pretty jolly successful when it first relaunched, enough to overwhelm the servers.
Ozzie Mejia posted a new article, Final Fantasy 14 offers free weekend to returning players.
If you've allowed your Final Fantasy 14 subscription to lapse before version 2.1's changes, you'll get a chance to experience the new additions with an upcoming free weekend.
