- Xav de Matos: Sleeping in on Saturday, recovering from watching the 12-hour Pardcast-a-Thon to benefit Smile Train. When I get to it, I'll be playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Mafia 2, and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
- Jeff Mattas: I'm on vacation next week, but that won't prevent me from spending some time with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Black Ops, and Rock Band 3. Eagerly awaiting the Epic Mickey release as well.

Do you have some one who could vouch for you? There are a few prerequisites for getting builder permissions (registered for 2 months, or having 200 posts), and unfortunately you don't meet either of them!

srs ? for admins: having trouble getting hMod to see my plugins. they are placed in the right folder and the server properties file has them listed.
when i start the server and they are not in that folder, it throws an error about not finding it. when in th correct folder, everything is gravy. but hMod still wont see them.
if you have suggestions, please let me know or chat with me on steam. -

Couple things about Foo's server I'd like to suggest:
1) No Renders
2) We should start using gold as an economy
1) The reason I think we shouldn't use any renders is so that A) Cartography can be a profession and cartographers will be very valuable in war and B) Having renders will make sneak attacks on places much more powerful/coordinated.
Thus, cartographers can earn a salary and/or charge to the highest bidder for their maps, which leads me to my next point....
2) Using gold as an economy is harder than somebody just going 'ok let's do it', it requires the faith of the majority to be viable. I'm hoping we could take a vote on this just to have everyone show their support (or not). Free Market, Pro Business, etc.-

The fact that gold has no inherent value is the point. By using a currency that is at a level of abstraction higher than the immediately practical you gain convenience. Also, by saying 'gold as the basis for economy makes no sense as gold has no inherent value' you're saying that the economy prior to the 1930s made no sense...

And, by association, the economy we have, which is printed on paper and based on faith, which has even less inherent value than gold (at least with gold you can build things but with faith not so much) also makes no sense. According to you, anyway.

The only problem I see is that would only be two denominations: gold ingots and blocks (I don't know if anybody would be using gold ore, but that would be a three I suppose).
Say I only wanted 64 cobble, but the going rate is 256 cobble per 1 gold ingot. Either you get 256 and have a lot left over, or you just have to mine the cobble yourself. Doesn't seem to be very practical to me. -
Gold in Minecraft, BarrowWight! In Minecraft it's only used for horrible tools and making clocks; nobody gives a shit about clocks! Also, an economy based on anything other barter is ridiculous based on the state that the game is in currently.

I don't know.. most cartographers would suck initially until certain advances in technology would happen. I think cartography would be a limited skill at best right now.

So, I got up on my sky island, covered it with torches them made a glass bridge from my island to a smaller sky island nearby. From there I made a bridge to a hill top so I would have easy access to my aerial domain.
Then minecraft crashed. When I restarted, all of my bridge work was gone. That was some scary work, hanging 10 up in the air like that too. sigh...-

So, I did some interesting things while I was "ghosted" on Shadowdane's server. I basically walked around, tried to kiss the sky (jump off high things) just to see if I would die/respawn, and attract half-a-dozen mobs just to lol at the fact that they couldn't touch me at all.

I do a fresh install, make sure no version and no minecraft original.jar, run and update minecraft, close it.
run the patcher, select the texture pack with 64v64 and all 5 boxes selected
then during the patch process it doesnt seem to finish, wont give me the option to run minecraft once i click patch.-
not supposed to use the patcher to apply her texture pack. It doesn't apply all of the custom stuff she's made. Use the patcher to make the jar 64x64 texture ready, then copy all her stuff into the jar yourself

Just wanted to put an appeal out there for the bans of two of my citizens of New Brickton last night.
First of all, I probably do not have all of the facts, and you being the server admin get to understandably make these calls. That being said, I would like to hash this out in order to full understand expectations. I was not online when this went down last night.
First, Damaged0ne:
My understanding is that he was banned from blowing up a crap load of TNT. My understanding is that this was not malicious, just exploratory. Obviously there was duping of TNT here, but lets circle back to the duping part. If DamagedOne was causing problems with TNT, I am hoping he was asked to stop prior to being flat out banned. If blowing up too much TNT causing ill effects for anyone, I would really hope you can post a rule about the usage of TNT, as we have found gunpowder and sand. I was simply told he was banned from blowing too much of it up.
Now if the issue was duping, lets be real here, half the server dupes everything. Just look at the map to see sprawling walls, buildings, etc after two days. Some of us just want to be creative and don't have time to farm forever and want to just build cool things and have fun doing so. Would you be up for posting a rule to specifically ban the duping of TNT due to its destructive nature? I think we can get everyone on board with that rule.
Now I would like to appeal to you to unban DamagedOne, as I do know him outside of the game, and he is a good guy. He's new to MC, and was exploring for fun. By all means if you've already warned them not to TNT and they did anyways, thats on them. My appeal is essecially on the basis of the new community the Towny mod has given us. We work to build a city, expand borders, and build cool things and people are getting banned. Is there not a better way to handle this?

I understand Winslow was running his mouth to you, which is probably a bad idea on his part when you are bitching at the server admin. All I can say is that he was simply angry about DamagedOne being booted out, as we all know each other outside of the game and came on to the server together to build. I have no idea what he actually said, and i'm sure it wasn't good. Is it at all possible to consider it a heat of the moment rage from a friend being booted?
At any rate, I hope you'll consider what I've written and possible set real rules around TNT (number to use per minute, no duping, etc perhaps). The citizens of NewBrickton would really appreciate a ban reversal if you can at least partially agree with what I've written. If you do reverse your decision, Poedell and I will talk to them and make sure they understand and follow the rules.
Thanks for the hosting and admin, It's a lot of work and we all appreciate it.
P.S.
I've been trying to get your attention to get build access to spawn to fix it up, connect roads to my town and the town on the opposite side. Right now I can't connect anything further, and spawn looks like a bombed out wasteland from creeps. Please let me know what we can do about that.

Very appreciated. I believe the town on the side opposite of NewBrickton has a tunnel coming to it.
I've build a welcome center cabin (needs more work) and a road right up to the spawn limits. We need to drop a billion torches and build proper roads / signs to welcome and direct people to the various towns. Perhaps the guys doing the mine car track would consider a spawn station?

It's actually pretty easy to gather tons of cobble to build huge walls pretty quickly, especially if people have a lot of time and a refined system after playing for so long.

Here's what I know.
They were warned about duping, multiple times. Blowing off hundreds of TNT is obviously duping, and it's something that nobody else is doing. So they are getting an advantage. The TNT users claim that everyone dupes, pointing at other buildings, and they aren't necessarily proof of duping (I don't know the time frames they were built, etc).
After being warned they continued to do it, so they got booted. So SgtEddie has no reason to complain.
I've never used TNT, I don't know anyone that does, except for these dupers. This is supposed to be a somewhat competitive, PVP server, and duping TNT gives them an advantage.-

My point is, if these guys were asses, leave em banned. If they were banned for playing the game, exploring, etc without harming anyone else, whats the problem if there aren't any posted rules otherwise? Every server for MC has duping going on even if people try to keep it quiet. Its just quicker to be creative that way.

Clay, people want to play with their friends and experience the PvP aspect of it as well. Tell me you dont drop your tools and pick them back up for full health. Thats called duping. If you dont do this, well then I applaud you. Either way, doesnt hurt anyone else on the server and certainly helps enjoy the game by getting to build and mine a lot quicker than crafting tools all day. Yes?

I like playing with you guys, and nowhere have any rules been posted of how to play this game, so why is everyone concerned with how we choose to play? We don't have any plans to use duped brick with nefarious intention, so who cares what happens in our town?

to give me the fair opportunity to state my case. I was never warned about TNT until last night after using it once. FOO appeared and said stop with the TNT usage we already told you about duping. which isn't the case i have never had one warning.
i actually legit made 14 TNT blocks. i set off 2 of them. 1 i even warned ahead of time i would be using.
FOO somehow had the stat i had 89 accounts of TNT which i have no idea who is even remotely close.
so to further make the situation even more fun, Damagedone gets banned for me using TNT, i try stating he didn't use TNT Foo goes on a power trip and tells me to stop or i will be banned, i told him off and i was shortly banned afterwards...
Bechard said it best...everyone in that server dupes, i personally just went to as many chests i could find and stole whatever was in it to use it.
I used TNT deep down in a mine to help make a tunnel, and Damagedone was banned for it, and then i tried sticking up for him and was banned 37 seconds after

Furthermore, lets take a step back and realize this is an ALPHA game. Which is already shown that with all the new features coming out sometimes world restarts are a must. I spent MANY hours mining and gathering materials for epic builds in Merc1 (never duping once) until one day its "Oh server reset time, or new server altogether" .. Or even worse, Login and see half my chest ransacked by a looter.
Anyways, its a game, there is a bug, among many which people exploit. If you want to kick people for duping, you will infact leave yourself with a very small number of users on the server. If you want to play all high and mighty then why not ban the people dropping tools and picking them back up for full health. IS THAT NOT DUPING? Sure is. Also, is it okay for admins to spawn material yet no one else can? Just asking to be fair is all.
Once again, its game, i think we need to relax a little until a FINAL version is released that addresses these issues. Until then, lets all play together and have fun.-

I appreciate your comments regarding the situation. I can't say much about Eddie's lack of restraint in his comments, other than as I said a moment of rage.
I am an honest guy and will be straight up with you as I am with anyone else. That being said, DamageOne did really have Poedell's friend on his account that first night when the mass amounts of TNT were originally used, and blew you up. This is completely accurate as Poedell was showing the game off to his friend and his brother (Damaged0ne) let Poedell's buddy use his account for the night.
I will be completely honest here, after building and mining materials on MercFox's server and being told it was going to be reset, the town of NewBrickton will most certainly be a mecca of duped materials. I don't see why we would need TNT, but if the need arrises, I'll ask that anyone mention it in chat, and only use one or two, not 164 in 2 minutes. TNT is a viable construction (mining) tool.
If duping is ever fixed in SMP, we'll go back to the regular approach. The fact is that with work, and a family with a 1 year old, I don't have the time and patience to mine out everything AGAIN. Duping needs to happen for me or I'd never be able to get anything built. Just wanted to be clear about that. This game for me is about being creative and having a good time with a fun group of people.-

PVP discussion!
Seems there is some confusion about what PVP means right now.
On foo1, with Towny, things are interesting. You have tools to protect yourself and your items, so do it. If your town isn't protected it's your fault, and anything that is lost (stolen), burned, destroyed, whatever, should not be restored by an admin (unless it was lost due to a bug).
By protecting your town I mean multiple things. Towny has a command that prevents people that aren't in your town from destroying/placing blocks, and pretty sure it blocks them from opening doors. With that and some good planning you and your chests should be safe.
PVP is on, and some people are actively attacking players. That's cool, although it'd be more fun if we did a little role playing, instead of just a silent hit-and-run heh.
We need admins to put more signs at spawn warning players of the PVP aspect, and maybe keep a nice chest inside stocked with some stone tools and sword so people that get PKed can fight back a little.
Minecraft itself has some major problems with PVP too. Being able to see player names, no health bars, lag, bows being weird, arrow duping (once bows work), and so on.
Protect your chests.
Watch your back, people might attack you.-

Funny PVP story!
I'm wandering kinda near spawn, checking out the minecart stuff near New Brickton. I see some stuff on the ground, pick it up, and ask. Seems nodebug had gotten PKed, cool. So I return his stuff, and go back on my way.
A minute or two later I find more stuff on the ground, this time some diamond items. I ask again, and the dead person was nodebugs killer! So I give the diamond items to him. :)

Well, towny is buggy and many of the protections were lost in the latest hey0 update. For instance, the door's are not suppose to open for non-town residents; however, unless you're a new player, you can almost always open a door or use redstone (which, btw, you aren't suppose to be able to use either if you aren't a resident) to open the door.
I'm also not sure to what extent the protection goes, working or not. I haven't tried, but I'm not sure if towny prevents fires from being placed.-
You wouldn't be able to tell anyway Vivid. Admins can modify blocks anywhere.

What mods and things do you use?
Could you do something like one of the biome generation mods when you remake? There is one that works in SMP I think.
On a PVE server does everyone really work together, no weird stuff? PVP servers bring out the competitive nature of some people, does a PVE server make everyone cooperate nicely?-

Found a dungeon this evening. Really strange, as it was on the surface and all of the others I've found were deep underground.
Nothing quite as shocking as rounding a hill in unexplored territory only to see a wall of cobble stone blocking off a cave and light shining through the doorway. It was spawning skellies until I surrounded the spawner with torches. -
