It's been a long time coming, but basketball fans will finally be able to play as their favorite WNBA players in upcoming sports release NBA 2K20.

Announced in a press release featured on the official Take-Two website, this news will come as a welcome surprise to longtime WNBA followers. The post reveals that all 12 WNBA teams and over 140 different WNBA athletes will make their debut in the upcoming NBA 2K release.

Speaking in the post, Los Angeles Sparks forward Candance Parker says the inclusion of WNBA players in NBA 2K20 will at last offer video game players a selection of female athlete role models.

“Growing up, I always remembered watching male athletes on TV and playing as them in video games," Parker said. "Now, to have the WNBA be in the position we are and to have women featured prominently in NBA 2K20, we are allowing young girls and boys to have female athletes as role models.

"The 2K team has done an amazing job of making sure to not just put women into the game playing men’s basketball, but I’ve seen first-hand the hard work they’re doing to make this as real and authentic as possible to women’s basketball. I’m proud to be a part of this team paving the way for the future.”

All of the WNBA teams and athletes will be playable the moment NBA 2K20 makes its worldwide release on September 6. Sports fans will be able to pick up the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Players can find more details about how to preorder the game featured on the NBA 2K website.
