Tech enthusiasts are always looking for fresh new devices at CES, and so far CES 2019 is not disappointing. Toward the notion of big reveals taken literally, display and general electronics manufacturer LG has unveiled its latest display, a beastly 88-inch 8K OLED HDTV sporting in excess of 33 million pixels.

Initial images of the new LG 88-inch 8K TV were shared in a series of updates posted to the LG Electronics Twitter account. The first was a teaser image presented on stage, where LG said the new OLED display would be mated to the company's robust Alpha 9 Gen 2 processor.

The second tweet announcement actually included a look at the display itself, featured in a small side-stage installation. Though the image doesn't have many up-close details, it does at least give a sense of the scale of the TV.

Because bigger is always better in the technology industry, the 88-inch LG OLED TV features an 8K resolution, which utilizes a frankly huge number of pixels. Many consumers may at first believe 8K to be twice the resolution of 4K, but it would be more accurate to say it's four times the resolution. Same as each quadrant of a 4K display represents a 1080p block of pixels, each quadrant of an 8K display represents a 4K block of pixels. The pixel density is essentially comparable to 16 times a standard 1080p resolution, rounding out to 33.2 million pixels total.

We're still waiting to hear more details about other features as well as pricing or release date. Until then, we at least expect to see more hot tech from LG appear on the showroom floor.
