Awesome Games Done Quick 2019: Day 2 schedule and runs to watch

Awesome Games Done Quick is back and raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Shacknews has today's full schedule of runs and has picked out a couple that are worth watching.

18

January has begun and that means that Games Done Quick is back to raise money for charity. Awesome Games Done Quick is an annual event featuring the world's best speedrunners, who have come together to play through games of the past and present as fast as possible and make a difference by raising money for charity.

This year kicks off a new era for Awesome Games Done Quick, as this year's event is being held in an all-new venue. The week takes place from the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. They will be raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event has begun and GDQ has raised over $120,000 in a single day. Shacknews is here with a handful of noteworthy runs from throughout the week that should not be missed.

Before getting into the Day 2 schedule, let's look back at a Day 1 highlight. Look how close this Hollow Knight run came to ending in disaster at the very end.

Here's the full schedule for Day 2, taken from the Games Done Quick website, along with a handful of noteworthy runs to check out:

9:53AM - Castlevania block

This year's AGDQ has a full Castlevania block set to unfold throughout Monday morning and it runs the gamut from old-school 8-bit series entries through the PlayStation era classics. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, in particular, should be a fascinating watch, as VB__ attempts to complete Hard Mode in just under an hour.

2:38PM - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Last year, Nintendo Switch owners got their taste of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, many of them getting to play through DK's latest adventure for the first time. Three plucky speedrunners will race through this game in a quick 90 minutes. It won't be easy, as many who have played Tropical Freeze will attest that it's the most difficult entry in the DKC series. Can the addition of Funky Kong help speed things up a tad and make this run a little easier?

8:53PM - Resident Evil

Perhaps you've heard that Resident Evil 2 is getting a remake later this month. So why not prepare for that by checking out the original Resident Evil, which is kicking off a night-long horror block? RawDerps will look to complete the original game in 45 minutes and whet everyone's appetite for the second game, set to arrive in just a few weeks.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 will take place from now through Saturday, January 12. For more, check out the Games Done Quick website and be sure to watch all of the action from Twitch. Also, be sure to check out our TwitchCon interview with GDQ's Matt Merkle.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 is in it's second day, having raised $141,000 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation!
AGDQ is a Speedrunning Marathon that will take place January 6-13th, 2019 in Rockville, MD, and is raising funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation ( https://preventcancer.org/ ).
You can watch on https://gamesdonequick.com/ or on https://twitch.tv/gamesdonequick once it starts, and you can contribute by donating at https://gamesdonequick.com/ or making a purchase from one of their affiliated sponsors such as https://theyetee.com/collections/games-done-quick or https://www.fangamer.com/collections/games-done-quick . Additionally, any Twitch channel subs to GamesDoneQuick or bits donations all go to the charity.
Over 128 games will be played and completed as quickly as possible, including recent games like The Messenger and Dead Cells to classics like Sonic The Hedgehog and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Additionally, they aren't just playing the good games, as it seems that the awful game block returns Thursday morning. They are also returning to having the marathon end with a Super Metroid run. While 128 games may seem to be less than past GDQs, this time they are having some marathon runs, with Final Fantasy IX expected to be finished in under 9 1/2 hours, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in under 6 hours, Nier: Automata [E] ending in under 4 1/2 hours, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in just over 4 hours.
