Latest MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Trailer Gets A Bit Reckless

Get a look at how the massive mechs will destroy everything around them in the latest trailer.

The legendary MechWarrior world is making a strong return to gaming this year with BattleTech and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries give players their giant mech fix in 2018. While Battletech arrives next week on April 24, we all must wait a bit longer MechWarrior 5, but we’ve got a new trailer to hold us over until December.

Massive hunks of walking metal, to no one’s surprise, are very capable of causing destruction. Throw in some heavy weapons and you have the wonderful ballet of damage that is the trailer above. Piranha Games is putting in a lot of work when it comes to making piloting a mech feel good, down to the individual limbs taking damage. Different biomes and environments were showcased in the previous trailer. This time, environments not only bend and break under the influence of the mechs, but can fight back too. If you’re running with a build that’s quick to overheat, a hot planet will lessen your efficiency. Urban environments provide unique opportunities, too, allowing players destroy the smaller buildings and skyscrapers around them so they can find their prey.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the first single-player MechWarrior in over two decades and will hopefully deliver the destructive goods in full this December. Hit the official MechWarrior 5 website to learn more, including details on the co-op campaign, full mod support, and more.

If you’re playing MechWarrior Online or curious about what it brings to the table, the new trailer for the major MechWarrior Online Solaris update is live as well. It introduces 1v1 and 2v2 gladiator contests with a robust spectator mode.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the first single-player MechWarrior in over two decades

MechWarrior 4 was released in 2000 and the last expansion pack, which was standalone, was in 2002.

So fortunately I'm not quite that old but FYI this quote's not quite accurate.

Also holy shit how many "Mercenaries" games are they going to make? There was that standalone pseudo sequel MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries and the standalone expansion MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. Now we've got MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Are they just doing the same title over and over until they get it right? In any event I'm down.
