Battlefield 3 will be bringing back select maps from Battlefield 2, and now we know which ones. Word came from DICE community manager Daniel Matros on the EA forums (via NeoSeeker) that Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula will all be bundled in the "Back to Karkand" expansion.

The pack remakes the old maps with the spiffy new Frostbite 2 engine, and will be included as a one time use code with the Limited Edition. Matros says that the altogether, players have logged over 25,000 years in these four maps.

PC fans were disappointed recently by the cancelation of Bad Company 2's Onslaught Mode DLC on PC, and the Battlefield 1943 port. Those teams were funneled into the Battlefield 3 push, which is leading on PC.

They have been doing this since the beginning of the BF franchise, but they were called expansion packs back then. DLC is just a new term, it is really very close to what they have always done.

What would be the choice of scripts to permanently hide all front page poster's comments? Friend or Foe? We don't need this drivel in our chatty.

That said --- BF1942 / BF2 had booster / expansions packs, and they were more expensive then the paid DLC released to date for BFBC2 - Vietnam.

if anything it combats used sales pretty effectively. thats what release day dlc is all about, you buy the game you get the stuff for free. you buy the game used you pay a bit more money to get that stuff which helps make up a little for the lost sales.

Mate, you're stuck in the past. I love these games and embrace the offer of more content. Plus, DLC IS FUCKING CHEAP AS FUCK generally, so take the padlock off your wallet. It's business, but if you're a fan of the game, I see now real downside. What's the most they'd charge you anyway? fucking shut up and save a little extra dosh from those few beers you were planning to have. I'm skint as fuck and I can always afford DLC, you cheap bastard. Also, I've had a few drinks tonight.....weeeeeeeeeeeee

It's become a lot more apparent that EA/Dice is shooting to re-take the FPS crown from Call of Duty, but not necessarily by returning to the things that made BF2 great. I think people who are hoping for a BF2-like experience are going to be very disappointed but people that like Bad Company will probably be pleased.

Its not just that though. They also get the ability to see people trying to sneak up on them.

I guess DICE have some career snipers in their management. Must be fun playing on their LAN with half the management staff camped on the same hill having a circle jerk sniping down at the peons. Sounds like a normal day at EA.

and? there's also the auto spotting scope. people don't use Q at all, so when I get pissed off, I get to snipe and spot at the same time because I get tired of the ground pounders running into drop an ammo box and throw grenades and 40mm spam and hope to spawn on a squadmate to continue the lols

I think I have 4 platinum sniper rifles in BC2 but I'm not a career sniper, so that means I get pissed off a lot at useless infantry combat

I always rolled with the G3 in my recon class. An assault rifle and the motion mines makes one hell of a one man army. You just need to stay close to an Assault guy for more mines and ammo.

This was probably the biggest disappointment with the destruction 2.0 stuff in BC2 --- exterior walls could be blow away, but interior walls couldn't, except on one structure.

everyone says "dont do prone other wise the snipers will be too powerful" but actually when you are getting sniped the best thing to do is to go prone behind something. I missed that counter defense in BC2. I'd have to run to a building and get sniped instead of go prone behind a half height wall.
