Morning Discussion
And yes, I'm looking forward to playing Fallout 3, especially after Nick's glowing review. Just, not right now. Too much quality gaming, not enough free time, and I want to give Fallout 3 the proper attention it deserves--not just squeezing in an hour here and there.
So for me, I guess it is just another Tuesday, complete with the part where I didn't develop any telekinetic abilities overnight. Phooey :(

anyone have fallout 3 yet?

Today is going to SUCK. Fallout 3 is all i'm going to be thinking about.
Plus, I tried to finish Dead Space last night (got to chapter 12 around 12:30 and just couldn't stay awake anymore) so I could hop right in Fallout 3 today!! I don't know what to do, I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want to play Fallout 3 but I don't want to leave Dead Space unfinished!!
Luckily today I may be able to leave work 30-45 minutes early, so that will be a bit of a blessing. But I'll still have to go to Gamestop after work to get my CE edition ;( -

from Nick's review
"Now, if I was looking for a reason to dock percentage points from a great game, I could pick out some flaws in Fallout 3. ... The repetitious dungeons, in the form of the ghoul-infested metro tunnels. "

oh well, hopefully a minor flaw that can be over looked. -

Not sure about that. At least not on Sunday anyway. I compared costs with taxes at FS and with exchange rate on Steam. Steam was a few cents more expensive, but worth it given the long-term convenience. I just wish I had bought it on Steam earlier when the dollar was a bit higher.
There are definitely no taxes added for Canadian buyers on Steam.

I still find it lame steam releases it basically last after everyone else. It's not that I like it, or I take pride in it. But it's just fact. and I think it's lame. It really makes me think twice when pre purchasing on steam.
When all is said and done I'll still probably buy L4D in steam. but that being a valve game I'm assuming it preloads and I'll be able to play it at midnight.

What the hell? NOD32 just popped a virus alert up during the install:
C:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3\testapp.exe
probably unknown CRYPT.WIN32 virus quarantined - deleted
Event occurred on a new file created by the application: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe. The file was moved to quarantine. You may close this window.

I am, because I think the rampant hatred shown towards the original games fans here is misplaced. You'd find the same negative reviews on the TLLG forums with regards to an EA System Shock 3. NMA's problem is that they have big mouths and want to be the centre of attention, and thus it pisses off fans of Bethesda games (or folks who aren't so anal about the changes).
Personally theres things I like about that site - such as the devout fans who make patches for widescreen modes or fixing bugs that existed long after Interplay kicked the bucket.
It's like complaining the steam forums are irrationaly. Of course they are - they are the steam forums. Fanboys tend to be overzealous.-
-
We don't hate "the original games fans." NMA does not represent that group of people.
I'm a huge fan of the original Fallouts. As such, I'm quite apprehensive about Bethesda making a game that, in order to live up to the legacy, would have to succeed in many areas where Bethesda has previously failed (colossally). When I've expressed my views clearly. calmly, and rationally, I've been met with clear, calm, and rational responses, and I feel I've actually gotten a pretty good dialog. I can confidently say Shack doesn't hate fans of Fallout 1 and 2, in fact, I think many of us are fans of Fallout 1 and 2, and I'm not sure where you'd get the idea otherwise.

I think if you are a true fan of the fallout series, you would be happy that anything was coming out rather nothing. I for one am a huge fan of fallout games and I am so happy that they even managed to get this game out. Years of wondering what was going to happen to this game made me scared for its release.
-
I'm happy as long as the game is recognizably fallout. Had Bethesda slapped a grain filter and ranged weapons onto Oblivion, and called it a day, I would have been quite upset, and would have preferred nothing. The bar is set very fucking high.
I won't get the game in my hands until tonight, but many of the threads here are indicating that these fears won't be realized, but I think I had a legitimate reason to be apprehensive.

Yep, and it'll be hilarious. NMA is like the http://www.hillaryis44.org/ of videogames.

same here I grabbed it at Best Buy. They had a bunch of copies on the new releases shelf and there was no sign of any big fuss or anything. I played for a little bit, getting up to the G.O.A.T. then had to go back to work :P
I dunno, all this vault business is cute but I want to get out there and kick some ass. -

Got it last night at midnight, had to reformat Windows to get it to not crash (codec issues maybe?). I didn't get started playing til around 2am and played til 4am. Played some more in between classes as well. I'm level 5 already and have completed a couple of quests. I'm enjoying it a lot so far.
Bethesda's made some big strides since Oblivion and actually listened to complaints and fixed a lot of the things that I had problems with in Oblivion. Can't wait to be done with classes today so I can play more! -

The problem I'm gonna have with that is that I got one of the last ones they had at this location. Even if they do have it I'm now stuck having to take a long lunch and do a 15 minute bus ride each way to do the exchange two days in a row.
I guess I can just try supergluing it to the base again, kinda sucks that it's gonna be all ghetto-rigged.

That I paid for expecting to be in the condition that it was intended to be in, not to be broken as the result of some jackass at a Best Buy warehouse tossing around boxes. That's the frustrating thing, I'm sure it came from Bethesda fine, it was a Best Buy employee being careless that broke it I can almost guarantee it.

Quote from the Gamespot review:
"It has more in common with Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series than with previous Fallout games, but that is by no means a bad thing."
I'm looking forward to playing it, but I'm a bit disappointed that its going to be more of an Awesome Game, than an Awesome Fallout Game. -
