Morning Discussion

Oh hey, it's Tuesday. But not just any Tuesday. Fallout 3 Tuesday. The Tuesday that some of you have been waiting ten years for. Man, that's a long time.

And yes, I'm looking forward to playing Fallout 3, especially after Nick's glowing review. Just, not right now. Too much quality gaming, not enough free time, and I want to give Fallout 3 the proper attention it deserves--not just squeezing in an hour here and there.

So for me, I guess it is just another Tuesday, complete with the part where I didn't develop any telekinetic abilities overnight. Phooey :(

I want to know if they included the Alien Blaster gun. That was one of my favorite weapons in the other two games.
It would be sadly missed if they didn't include it.

I hope they release mod tools

I was thinking the same thing about the Red Ryder LE BB Gun from Fallout 2. Mmm... 3 AP for a targeted shot to the eyes, and like 50 rounds per reload. Grab Sniper, and that's 3 dead super mutants per turn. :D

Today is going to SUCK. Fallout 3 is all i'm going to be thinking about.

Plus, I tried to finish Dead Space last night (got to chapter 12 around 12:30 and just couldn't stay awake anymore) so I could hop right in Fallout 3 today!! I don't know what to do, I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want to play Fallout 3 but I don't want to leave Dead Space unfinished!!

Luckily today I may be able to leave work 30-45 minutes early, so that will be a bit of a blessing. But I'll still have to go to Gamestop after work to get my CE edition ;(

I hear the PS3 version is the worst of the bunch. That said, the reviews that said it was lacking said that the graphical fidelity was only a smidgen worse than the 360 release and the framerates weren't that much worse.

From what I've read, the PS3 version has slightly more bugs than the 360 version, which has more bugs than the PC version. I hear there are slowdowns on the later missions on the PS3 version, which blows.

The phrase "Oblivion with guns" is a disservice to Fallout 3. It's vastly more than that. I'm 10 hours into and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I've completed 4 quests and I'm level 5. VATS is amazing, especially a critical headshot.

              October 28, 2008 12:30 PM

I am, because I think the rampant hatred shown towards the original games fans here is misplaced. You'd find the same negative reviews on the TLLG forums with regards to an EA System Shock 3. NMA's problem is that they have big mouths and want to be the centre of attention, and thus it pisses off fans of Bethesda games (or folks who aren't so anal about the changes).

Personally theres things I like about that site - such as the devout fans who make patches for widescreen modes or fixing bugs that existed long after Interplay kicked the bucket.

It's like complaining the steam forums are irrationaly. Of course they are - they are the steam forums. Fanboys tend to be overzealous.

"rampant hatred shown towards the original games fans"

You're claiming people here hate Fallout fans? That seems like a pretty extreme interpretation of finding NMA preposterous, which the end of your post admits.

                October 28, 2008 1:34 PM

We don't hate "the original games fans." NMA does not represent that group of people.

I'm a huge fan of the original Fallouts. As such, I'm quite apprehensive about Bethesda making a game that, in order to live up to the legacy, would have to succeed in many areas where Bethesda has previously failed (colossally). When I've expressed my views clearly. calmly, and rationally, I've been met with clear, calm, and rational responses, and I feel I've actually gotten a pretty good dialog. I can confidently say Shack doesn't hate fans of Fallout 1 and 2, in fact, I think many of us are fans of Fallout 1 and 2, and I'm not sure where you'd get the idea otherwise.

I think if you are a true fan of the fallout series, you would be happy that anything was coming out rather nothing. I for one am a huge fan of fallout games and I am so happy that they even managed to get this game out. Years of wondering what was going to happen to this game made me scared for its release.

            • reply
              October 28, 2008 1:37 PM

I'm happy as long as the game is recognizably fallout. Had Bethesda slapped a grain filter and ranged weapons onto Oblivion, and called it a day, I would have been quite upset, and would have preferred nothing. The bar is set very fucking high.

I won't get the game in my hands until tonight, but many of the threads here are indicating that these fears won't be realized, but I think I had a legitimate reason to be apprehensive.
