In a recent announcement by Larian Studios, the highly anticipated release of Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox consoles has been delayed, much to the disappointment of eager fans. Originally slated for a late summer launch, the game's release on Xbox has now been pushed back to early 2024.

The decision to delay the Xbox console release of Baldur's Gate 3 was attributed to the developer's commitment to ensuring a polished and seamless gameplay experience for players on the platform. Larian Studios cited technical optimization as the primary reason for the postponement. Fingers are pointing specifically to the Xbox Series S.

"We understand that fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox consoles, and we share in that excitement," said Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios. "However, we believe that taking the time to properly optimize the game for the Xbox platform will result in a far better experience for players in the long run."

Larian Studios assured fans that the delay would not impact the ongoing development and updates for the PC version of the game. The studio remains committed to providing a seamless and immersive experience for both PC and Xbox players alike. As the team works tirelessly to fine-tune the Xbox version, gamers are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates and announcements.

While the delay may be disappointing, the silver lining is the assurance that Larian Studios is dedicated to delivering the best possible gaming experience for players on the Xbox console. As the months progress and the technical optimization efforts continue, Baldur's Gate 3 fans can look forward to an enhanced and captivating adventure when the game finally arrives on Xbox platforms sometime in early 2024.

Console fanboys were insinuating Larian was money hatted by Sony to not release the game on Xbox and then to “calm” those idiots down they explained it was a development issue with split screen which now we all assume it’s the Series S causing another stupid drama from the opposite side.

If I were Microsoft I’d have let them release the game with the mode disabled on the S but with the promise of unlocking it once it was ready.

It’s conceivable MSFT didn’t allow them the exception because they didn’t want its release competing with Starfield, although who knows if the big platform holders even knew how huge of a hit it was going to be.

I bet as soon as the initial rush of the Starfield launch quiets down, there will be news for BG3’s release date on Xbox, which from this article at least sounds like it’s going to be early next year.

It’s probably because if they let these guys do this others will also want exceptions. But it’s still shitty this happened.

There's a contract clause, that say if the game can't release on the Series S, it can't be released On the Series X . It's sparked quite the debate on whether or not that's good
