Doom closed beta begins on March 31

Doom is set to kick off its closed beta on March 31 and if you don't remember if you can be a part of it, just think back to a few years ago.

Bethesda has released a new trailer for the upcoming Doom, just a few months prior to its release. The publisher has also announced that the game's closed beta is set to begin and will run from March 31 through April 3 on all of its supported platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

How does one get into the closed beta? Well, remember when Wolfenstein: The New Order released a few years ago? Yes, one of the pre-order incentives was access to the Doom closed beta and this would be that beta. Those that redeemed the beta key packaged in the 2014 game's pre-order have no further steps to take. They'll be ready to jump in on March 31. Everyone else will have to wait until the game releases in full on May 13.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

      They should have a single player level in with the beta as well 'cause not everyone cares about MP.

        Or...they should have people beta test what they need testing on. Because a beta isn't about enjoying content, it's about trying to make sure the game is good to go.

        Beta =/= demo

          It kinda fucking turned into that when the industry started giving away "beta" access with pre-orders and inserts into to their other games though didn't it? Nah, the industry brought that bullshit on themselves, it's a fucking demo.

            I mostly blame Valve and Blizzard for that. They really got the ball rolling. >:(

              Nah, was EA and Gamespy.

              Betas for games only available to Fileplanet subscribers really fucked everything up. You suddenly had a horde of people who are demonstrably impatient (why else pay for a fileplanet subscription?) flooding your beta. The amount of useful data you got was limited to stress testing, actual feedback was worthless.

              That was the start of the beta moving from a beneficial part of the development cycle and into part of the marketing cycle.

      I hope its good. It looked nice and fast paced there, but I still worry that those stop-and-do-a-kill-animation bits will get in the way.
