The Division open beta will feature major changes to Dark Zone

There are a number of changes expected to roll out with the open beta of The Division, but the Dark Zone appears to be getting the most attention.

The open beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 next week, and prior to its launch, Ubisoft has revealed a number of improvements it has made to the game for the upcoming event.

According to patch notes outlined in an update history for the PS4 version, we can expect some new content, including the Subway Morgue mission that include The Cleaners faction, the opportunity to unlock the first upgrade in the Base of Operations’ Tech wing, new high-end weapons to be found in the Dark Zone, and a Deployable Turret skill.

The Dark Zone appears to have received the most changes as players can expect the number of non-player enemies to be significantly increased and to be slightly more powerful, chests will refresh much less frequently, and players who have shot at another player will now be marked, but not yet considered to be a Rogue Agent.

Just like with its closed beta, Xbox One owners will be able to get a headstart on The Division’s beta as they can begin accessing it on February 18. PC and PlayStation 4 owners can then join the fight the following day, on February 19 and all versions are expected to commence on February 21.

After the cluster that was getting keys for closed beta, I'm excited to try this with my friends this time!

Let us know how that goes. Considering the closed beta was close to capacity, I'm curious to see if anyone has any trouble accessing the open beta.

Their recent support of Rainbow Six Siege has been excellent - maybe that's just the one studio, or maybe they're making an effort to suck less.

When specifically talking about becoming rogue I feel that if one person takes a shot and doesn't become rogue they should have a 5 second timer where the opposing enemy can begin shooting without there being a retaliation of becoming rogue.

The problem with that is someone can jump right in front of your rounds, then turn and shoot you without any negative impact. I like this change because it allows you to keep an eye out just in case.

Maybe a detection system similar to other games that have friendly fire like halo where it recognizes you were targeting an enemy and not intentionally trying to shoot that person. The other thing to support my idea is that the timer wouldn't stay at 5 if they're being shot at unless they shoot back. You could just hide in cover or run away and be fine. There needs to be some amount of risk when you're hunting rogues and in the closed beta there wasn't much.

I really hope they up the number of NPC's in the PvE area as well.

oh and its weird they say the Cleaners are a new faction here. There was a mission in the closed beta to restore some water pressure and you had to hold off a bunch of dudes with tanks on their backs that would burn and explode when shot. I thought those guys were part of the Cleaner faction.

either way I'm glad theyre including some more stuff! :D

That mission was fun shooting their tanks and then they chain explode others.

yeah it was. I mean that mechanic is always fun but it seemed extra satisfying here watching the slow burn before the most excellent looking explosion :D
