Battle royale mods in survival games like H1Z1 and ARK: Survival Evolved have been gaining in popularity over the past several months. Today, Xaviant is announcing a new game that focuses squarely on the battle royale aspect of survival games called The Culling.

The Culling has players jumping into a remote island paradise to join a 16-player battle for supremacy. Just like in most modern survival games, you’ll need to explore, scavenge items, craft weapons, and build traps in order to get the leg up on the competition. You’ll need to be the last man standing before the end of the round.

The Culling plans on redefining the battle royale genre by delivering a tightly-focused stand-alone experience. So if you’ve been wanting to do more killing than scavenging in survival games, The Culling might just be your cup of demented tea.

Could be cool if they execute it well. I have a lot of friends who are huge into BR in H1Z1, but I can never get past the jank in those games.

I can't remember the name but there used to be (maybe still is) a twice a year or so DayZ event that did something like this on the Taviana map with commentators who were able to switch around and view any of the players at a given time. They had a neat hook where the map was sectioned off with each section having a times limit of accessibility and once the timer was up any one left in the area would be bombed into oblivion. It was pretty fun to watch. I wonder if this game will have hooks for something like that for streaming events.
