Heroes of the Storm will get duo of new Diablo-inspired characters

Two new heroes have been revealed for the popular MOBA, both of which are inspired by the Diablo universe.

Heroes of the Storm game director Dustin Browder has announced two new characters will be joining the Nexus, both of which have been inspired by the Diablo universe.

Browder revealed the two new characters in an interview with MetaBomb. The first of the two, named Xul, is a necromancer from Diablo 2 that can summon up four skeletons from the corpses of minions, reduce attack speeds with the power of curses, can poison using AoE attacks and even imprison enemy heroes.

The second hero, Li Ming, is Diablo 3’s wizard that can attack using magic missiles and her Arcane Orb, which increases in damage the farther she is from it. If things get a little too hectic, she can use her power of teleportation to save her from taking any more damage.

Browder didn’t reveal when we’d get an official reveal of either character, but we’re sure they’ll be coming sooner rather than later.

And knowing hots, you probably won't have to micro them (my micro skills are bad for multiple units)

While you're probably right, like Abathur's locusts, it's not impossible since they do allow you to micro the Lost Vikings.

This is starting to worry me a bit. They're turning out heroes at a pretty steady clip. Great to add variety to the game, but they're going to run out of named heroes (or have they already in some games?). BUT, this also makes me think they'll start adding in more named heroes going forward just to have them crossover into Heroes.

idk, maybe that's not really a big deal. Just kinda irritates me when studios start making decisions for marketing purposes rather than what's best for the game. I blame marketing for what happened with Age of Ultron.

I know what you're saying and I generally agree, but I'm not worried about them running out in THIS particular situation. There's so many random-ass named bosses in diablos/wow/stwarcrafts that they can still heroize.

My vote for the next Hero- BARRENS CHAT

omg, BC would be the most OP hero in the entire game. The ULT would be to fill the other players screen with inane chat strings and auction shorthand.

Not to mention if they go for some deep cuts and get fucking WEIRD with characters (Blackthorne, RnR Racing) or super dumb things like Leeroy Jenkins or Mankrik.

Also you KNOW they are going to just start dumping Overwatch characters in too.

heh.. an Overmind hero where melee can't hit you, and you can detect invis, do some CC, but you can't attack. But you have a stupid amount of armor/health. An air tank, literally.

Thought about that, but they want all heroes to move at about the same speed. Although they do have Hammer move slower and Luanra move faster, so idk. Would at least need some kind of teleport like Abathur's tunnel ability.

I don't think a hero with no attack is viable anyway, unless it has a serious buff like Abathur.

I was musing about a worker hero- who only did wall-ins, turrets, work work work. Maybe could make camps turn into workers and cut down all the trees, mine random stuff, put the gates and turrets back up, call mules down etc
They've covered so much ground already though, it's kinda hard to find a mechanic they haven't done yet.
Also was thinking about how to do a Hearthstone Hero- where you literally draw cards into the skill slots and play them.
(everyone would hate the randomness of that)

Maybe the innkeeper, and instead of mana, he gets a mana crystal each level from 1-10 that plays one of his card abilities.

Maybe make the abilities like Twisted Fate in League of Legends, where activating the basic ability makes it scroll through 3 "cards" and you activate it again to trigger which one you want?

Their three main franchises are fairly large and they have a fourth coming up.

At Blizzcon they mentioned having a list with over 200 heroes on it.

Plus, they already showed they don't have to stick to existing named heroes. Sgt. Hammer and Lt. Morales are Starcraft units given an identity for HotS.

I keep waiting for a melee specialist Firebat hero. I really want that. PBAE fire dmg with tons of armor/health, but wouldn't have an escape kinda like Morales. Firebat & Morales combo would be difficult to counter w/o CC.

I didn't know about the 200 heroes thing. But it makes sense they would have a goal like that since Dota/lol have large roasters.

Warcraft probably has more than 200 named by itself before you throw in the RTS units that can easily fit but don't have a big named lore presence (like Dryad -> Lunara).

Starcraft is smaller, but those units add up. Hell, they made a Siege Tank work, so I'm sure they can find a clever way to make a Reaver work as well.

Then Diablo has the other Prime & Lesser Evils, the angels, plus the heroes from both Diablo 1 & 2, plus the other named bosses (Summoner, Maghda, Greed, Izual), and beyond that they could flesh out random low level trash if they ever wanted.

Basically, I doubt they'll have to get desperate with hero concepts until they're well into the 200-300+ range.

They need to keep pumping out heroes. Just like League there is a large chunk of people who drop cash to have the latest and greatest hero on release. So Making a new hero every ~2 weeks is some nice guaranteed income.

They've said they're going to keep making heroes until they're bored of it, and they won't run out any time soon, even at their current pace. There are still entire playable races from Warcraft that have yet to make an appearance. (Where my trolls at? Gnomes? Blood elves? Draenei?)

Neither of these are named Blizzard characters I think, they're made up to reflect player characters. Lunara was invented to represent dryads. There are a million other units/classes in Blizzard games they can give that treatment too. And then there's Overwatch...

Li-Ming is mentioned in some side stories and flavor text, and I'm sure has some internal Blizzard lore, do she isn't a total fabrication. I'm not sure about the necromancer.

Tracer is already in the pre-order bundle. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two more for purchase by then. Zarya would be a cool support to add to the roster. Or Winston as a warrior.

I find I can't play Ranked, it's too stressful. On one hand I like the better team comps, but when it's ranked my brain starts to think that the outcome is important and then I get pissed off when I lose. With QM I can just log on and have fun with the hero I feel like playing that day.
