Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire gets free Shiny Rayquaza today

To celebrate the latest expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, owners of the 3DS Pokemon games, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, are being treated to a free Shiny Rayquaza.

Rayquaza is among the most dangerous Dragon-types across all of the Pokemon series. It's a massive beast, one so deadly that it's the only Pokemon that can lay claim to being a Smash Bros. boss. But even with its unique abilities and its intimidating presence, the question remains: Does it come in a darker color?

Fortunately, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire users can get their darker Rayquaza with the Shiny Rayquaza giveaway that's kicking off today. The shiny variant of this all-powerful Pokemon will come with the Dragon Ascent move already learned, allowing it to Mega Evolve without the aid of a stone. That means Rayquaza now has an item slot open for berries or other equipment.

Shiny Rayquaza is being released as a celebration of the new Pokemon TCG expansion, XY - Ancient Origins, which is now available across a number of retailers. However, picking up this Pokemon does not mean leaving the home. It can simply be picked up via the Nintendo Network and jumping online with a working copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire.

Shiny Rayquaza will be available from now until September 14. To see it in action, check out the video below.
