Rocket League revs up 1.04 update early

Days ahead of its scheduled deployment, Psyonix has deployed the new 1.04 patch for Rocket League, adding a slew of new features for no extra charge.

Rocket League's Supersonic Fury DLC is set to come out later this week, but developer Psyonix isn't waiting that long to release the game's latest free update. Days ahead of its scheduled release, Rocket League has now received its 1.04 update, introducing some key new additions and a round of fixes.

The 1.04 patch will add the new Utopia Coliseum stage, inspired by Rocket League's predecessor, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars. It'll also throw in a new 3v3 Ranked Mode, a Spectator Mode, 70 new country flags, and some new customization items to make up for the iffy online launch issues. Speaking of online, the update will be required before playing anymore online sessions, so be sure to update as soon as possible.

A new "Buy" button for DLC is also being added, but that won't be functional until the Supersonic Fury DLC hits later this week.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Cool! Rumor is cross platform private matches are in now, too. So we can have one single tournament with both PS4 & PC players instead of separate ones. It's not as simple as inviting friends, but it is as simple as creating a match name and password to join on.

Yeah, I like it. I just wish they had a few different maps, ones that were't rounded corner rectangles with flat ground. How about bowl shaped field, or one where the goals were up a slope so the ball tended to go back to the center?

Ugh, an arena without rounded corners sounds awful. The rounded corners is a major action creator.

I'm not against the rounded corners, I'm more against it basically being a rectangle. Why not a hexagon or octagon? Or maybe hourglass shaped d or bowl shaped?

This new one should have been a full octagon. Keep the rounded corners but make the whole thing more circular to change it up. Would fit the coliseum theme better, too.

I guess they want every map to be the same, though.

The pirate ship with multiple levels was really fun in the old game.

They confirmed that they're planning on doing weird maps like the original had:

They just wanted to launch with the classic soccer mode to keep it from being overwhelming which I think was smart.

How do you get into spectator mode? Do you select it instead of teams in a private match?

It seem that way. When joining a match the options are orange, blue, auto and spectate.
