Square Enix has announced it will be releasing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on Steam on May 12.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV (or Final Fantasy II if you originally played it on the Super NES) set two decades later, focusing on the arrival of the second moon. The son of King Cecil and Queen Rosa of Baron, Prince Ceodore, is now a young man and has enlisted with the Red Wings. During his enlistment, another moon appears in the sky, and with it, hordes of monsters that are bent on destroying the world.

FFIV: The After Years features a total of ten chapters to complete, an active time battle, the ability to combine the strength of your party members with Band Abilities, and Lunar Phases that affect how battles play out. For the Steam version, players can expect both achievements and trading cards to be earnable.

FFIV: The After Years originally released for Japanese mobile phones in 2008, but was then released on iOS and Android devices soon after. Square Enix is no stranger to publishing their games on Steam as they've been doing so since 2009, although we wonder what took them so long to release a PC version of FFIV: The After Years considering it was available on US mobile devices in 2013.
