Runbow adds Shovel Knight, CommanderVideo, and other indie guest stars

Why should Hue and Val have all the fun? 13AM Games has invited a full guest list of their indie brethren to join the Runbow race.

Runbow has quite a cast of colorful characters. Of course, that's said in the most literal sense possible. Hue and Val come in every color of the rainbow, but 13AM Games doesn't plan to trot them out to the arena alone. Today, the developer has announced some special guest stars from across the indie gaming world to join in the race.

The mighty Shovel Knight will make an appearance, taking time out from his own game that's currently taking aim at next-gen consoles. He'll be joined by Steamworld Dig's Rusty, masked luchadors Juan and Tostada from Guacamelee!, Sportsball's Swift Thornebrook, the scarf-wearing feline Scram Kitty, and BIT.TRIP series mascots CommanderVideo and CommandgirlVideo. Don't look for any of these characters to have distinct attacks from one another, as the game is all about ground-pounding, punching, and jumping. They're simply here for show and who can blame them, considering how enjoyable Runbow was at this year's Game Developers Conference?

Runbow is set to bring its unique 9-player mayhem to Wii U later this year as a downloadable title.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
